I am all for cooler heads prevailing but let's be clear while there was a lot of mutual disrespect off the court it was not a rivalry on the court with one team winning 28 of 31 games. I remember being at a function and a questioner made the mistake of using the team "rivalry" with Calhoun and he totally went off about how can it be a rivalry with us beating BC 22 times in a row, etc
Of course I know he always got jacked up due to BC not interviewing him when they had a head coach vacancy even after his success at Northeastern. Also being an Irish Catholic guy from Boston just rubbed salt in the wounds.

IIRC that was Fishy's hanging tagline. Deep did sentence him though.

I'm all for playing them but if we are doing MBB we need to do football as well. (Thankfully not this year.)

I did not know BC had the chance to have Calhoun coach them and blinked.

Let's hope that the Curse of the Calhouno lasts more than 86 years.

I do know that they have had a team since 1904 and never won an NCAA or NIT Championship. They made the Elite Eight twice in 1963 and 1982. They made the NIT semi-finals in 1987-1988, ------- but lost to UCONN!

Jim O'Brien led them to the ACC finals and the Sweet Sixteen in 2005-06. Of, course UCONN lost to George Mason in the Elite Eight that year. Soon after, Jim O'Brien, like UCONN, sued BC.

You still don't.

I certainly want to beat the snot out of BCU, but yikes - can't find it in my heart to be cocky about it.

I liked reading Ollie's comments about renewing the BC-UCONN rivalry. But I'm glad he's taking the PC route and saying the right things. Has he even made a small misstep since he's taken over? He's been something special for sure. Every time I read something new about him, I'm continuously even more impressed (that was probably crap English form, but you get my point)...

Jim O'Brien was fired in 97, IIRC. Didn't they go to the Elite 8 in '94 (lost the Da Meat hook and Florida) or just the Sweet 16?

Yes, that was the elite 8. UConn lost to Florida in the Sweet 16...:(

@franfraschilla: Watching UConn at practice and on tape, just a matter of time before 7-0 frosh Brimah in starting lineup. Has to stay out of foul trouble.

I hate missing UConn games, and this one, given the history, is a pretty big deal. But on Thursday, I'll be in Yale NH for my 4th eye surgery in as many months. Still not sure what time they'll do the surgery, but if it's early enough, maybe I can watch it on the phone (since I will be in face down mode after the surgery).

May not happen this year. I like him in his current role, and the staff probably does too. As a starter, teams would game plan to go right at him early and get him in foul trouble. Now we can just come in and change the game when we need it changed.

Maybe I'm wrong - time will tell.

I wouldn't mind seeing Amida in the starting lineup for the sole purpose of winning the tip. At 6'11" (he's not a true 7 footer) with those arms...please he'd have a 99% chance of winning the opening tip.

81.3 vs 84 PPG.
85.5 vs 63.5 opponent PPG.

Offensively both teams shoot a lot of threes, BC has not been bad from three but UConn has been fantastic. Obviously with the number of threes the two teams take, someone getting hot or cold could seriously affect the game. Hanlan and Rahon are their two big guns from deep, though almost everyone shoots once a game from deep. UConn mainly has 5 guys who shoot every game.

Neither team is a particularly good rebounding team, though BC is particularly bad so far this year. Anderson is their best rebounder and garners 25% of their rebounds. You would think with all the threes they take and miss, they would be better from the guard position.

The biggest difference though is defensively BC doesn't really block shots or steal the ball. They do tend to play games with a high number of foul shots. UConn obviously is the opposite, they block shots and steal a decent number, while not getting into FT shooting contests. BC is worse at defending the three, and much worse defending the paint.

Surer, Donahue, but talk to your AD first. He's friends with Warde Manuels from back in their Michigan days.

Then again, he's also the guy that came out heavy against UConn in ACC meetings late in 2012, much to the incredulity of the Duke and UNC presidents.

I'm thinking BC wants to duck UConn as much as humanly possible.
