KSU .967
ORE .950
ND .940

So if they all win out it's KSU/Oregon.

Kansas State has a huge test in Texas. Oregon should dispose of their remaining schedule. Opened as a 24 point favorite against Stamford and Oregon State is a paper tiger.

Comes down to how good USC is. Can they beat UCLA and get another crack at Oregon and do they beat Notre Dame.

Don't sleep on Georgia - they aren't done yet.

Trying to come up with a scenario that gets Florida to title game without playing in SEC championship is fun.

Florida beats Florida State, Georgia Tech beats Georgia, Georgia beats Alabama, Texas or Baylor beats Kansas State, USC beats Notre Dame. That might get them to 2.

An all-SEC title game? KSU loses to Baylor or Texas. Notre Dame loses to USC. Oregon loses to Oregon State or USC/UCLA. Florida versus Alabama/Georgia winner.

KSU vs ND is my hope. Oregon is vulnerable on defense, at least.

I think you'll be disappointed. I think Oregon is getting to the title game. I have a feeling it's against the SEC champ.

We shall see. I think Oregon vs KSU is most likely. KSU can win out.

You are talking about next year? If fix was in why is Notre Dame going to finish third if they all win out?

K-State doesn't have to worry about the league championship game right? I got a kick out of Vern Lundquist trying to keep his feelings for Alabama in check. What a disaster that they might not be in the championship game, oy vey! This is why there should be a 16 team playoff. There are many teams that should get a shot. On ESPN they give no props to the lesser team like Louisiana-Lafayette on the road giving the mighty Gators a heart attack. There is more parity out there than they want to admit too. Keeping the TV monopoly is the only thing that matters. Fools.

Exhibit A: Kansas State. Nothing gets mentioned about their recruiting classes. Sadly, for now, college football is about show.

My assumption would be that K-State's SOS (mostly perception of conferences) is stronger than Oregon or ND. The above poster thinks ND has the strongest schedule.

How's this quote?

"If there are any Big Ten teams that shoot for a national championship, they're damn fools...You play to win the Big Ten championship, and if you win it and go to the Rose Bowl and win it, then you've had a great season. If they choose to vote you number one, then you're the national champion. But a national champion is a mythical national champion, and I think you guys ought to know that. It's mythical."

The computers say ND does. ND and KSU played Miami and Oklahoma. Notre Dame's results in those two games are better.

Yeah it doesn't quite work like that anymore.

Oh, I know. But I found out the "SOS" factor might be the difference why an undefeated SEC team in 2004 was left out of the championship game. Auburn ended up making championship rings anyway.

Kansas State beat Miami 52-13, Notre Dame beat Miami 41-3

Kansas State beat Oklahoma 24-19, Notre Dame beat 30-13.

Although ND beat Oklahoma by a few more points anyone who saw that game knows it was closer than that. I see the Miami results as a draw. And.......I can assure you that the transitive property simply doesn't work in football. I can make a strong case that my JC football team would have beat Michigan in 1987.

Diablo Valley College outscored St. Mary's of California 6 Td's to 2 Td's in a scrimmage, St. Mary's defeated UOP, who defeated Minnesota, who defeated Michigan who finished the season ranked #18 in the country. Therefore, my Diablo Valley College Vikings should be favored over the Bo Schembechler led Wolverines.

Well if you have three undefeated teams and only two teams play for the championship no matter who the third team there is always going to be a plausible argument in their favor. Based on game results USC was better than Auburn so it's hard to lose sleep over.

Auburn should have easily gotten the nod over Oklahoma to play USC. They beat higher ranked opponents more handily.

I certainly am not a proponent of the transitive property - but this isn't the transitive property. They played the same teams and Notre Dame beat them by more points. It's a real data point to judge the two teams on. I honestly don't care who is ranked ahead of each other - I'm merely saying if you want to argue it Notre Dame can be argued over KSU and the computers agree as generally useless as they are.

And you generally make stupid arguments but congratulations for going all in.

And when they got destroyed by USC people a decade later would be saying OU would have given them a better game.

What can I say? But just based on schedule alone, Auburn should have been given the nod for the title game.

As for the present schedules between ND and KSU, it is hard to say. Both played four "cupcake" games and both beat four ranked teams. Kansas State has a bigger point differential against the four ranked opponents (ND, +48; KSU, +129), and ND has one more home game then KSU. That might be why KSU is #1.

How can we be talking transitive properties this year and not be making the connection that if UConn beat Pitt who took Note Dame to OT, then obviously UConn is better than Oklahoma?
