Geno called it a dress rehearsal so I know he wasn't expecting pretty. Some was. Most was not. Pretty good though for Oct 13.

Things that got my attention:

-I realize the UConn following is huge but what a crowd for an exhibition game.
-Serah Williams will be a nice third option after Sarah and Azzi. She looks to score and is going to be a huge asset defensively and on the boards.
-Maybe I am reading too much into it, but I like how many minutes Allie got. She must have been impressive in practice so far.
-Sarah Strong showing no early season rust. Azzi put on a show in the second after a little slow start.
-The newbies, other than Serah, how steep the learning curve is playing for UConn.
-Blanca isn't shy about putting the ball up.
-Geno pressing nearly the whole game was interesting. I wonder if BC wanted to see that much full court pressure this early.
-BC making 10 threes.
-He had Gandy and Jana on the floor at the same time at the end. Maybe not those two specifically, but I hope he plays some big lineups.

I coached for 30 years. These first outings are eye opening for all involved. As long as there was no injuries, the day is nothing but positive.

It is great to watch them plat again.

These were probably my two biggest takeaways. Strong look tremendous and seem to be playing a focused purposeful game.

Playing at Connecticut is hard. Bianca and Kayleigh look talented but didn't seem to be in the UConn flow. It will come.

It definitely was good to see everyone out there again.

-The starting 5 look like the starting 5 to me. I don’t think any non-starters made a case for starting.
-It was really nice to see Serah Williams create opportunities for herself on the offensive glass. I don’t think we did a lot of that last season.
-how many trusted three point shooters are on this team? I really only trust Azzi and shade right now.
-Heckel looked nervous to me.
-KK having a slight injury scares me. I think we look a little thin at point guard. There is no margin for error there. We need consistent KK. And we need Heckel to be a solid backup.
-Ducharme doesn’t look like old Ducharme to me. So if anyone thought she was maybe a threat to start… I didn’t see it.

Was good to see all healthy players getting time on the court. Two exhibition games to get through early season jitters is good. I liked the focus on pressuring the ball on defense. As coach said, on offense, the looks were there. More shots will start going in as the season progresses. Some of the turnovers were a result of players not knowing each other. Better ball and player movement will happen with time. Nice to see we now have strength down low!!

All in all, a good outing. I look forward to the next one.

Typical exhibition game. Some good & some bad . I was surprised that Kelis didn't enter the game until late 4th qtr. Geno is going to have a lot of fun with lineups. Caroline looked better than I expected. Sereh Williams is the real deal. Hard to glean much from an exhibition, but much work needs to be done over the next month.

An early view:

Positives at this stage :

Strong,
Fudd,
Ash
Williams

Ok for this point in the season:

KK
Allie

Still a little work to do:

ICE
Jana
Caroline

Below expectations:

Yanna-still can't make shot from 1 ft.
Blanco-won't be a starter unless she improves lots
K9- Wow! Really rough start as a Husky
Big Fish-a long way to go to see playing time

Incomplete:

Gandy

Big Fish was in the game before the 4th Qtr.

Was gonna reply to all the sky falling posts, but nah. We have a bunch of new players, a few players rusty due to minor injuries, the whole team has to learn each other's tendencies and trust each other. How many weeks have they all been together in an official capacity? 1 or 2? There are gonna be nerves from the newbies. I'm just glad that I got to watch the game.

I could see some glimpses of potential with some of the new folks. Azzi said it best post-game… lots of room for improvement.
I know it's real early, but interested in which of the new folks (except Serah Williams) showed glimpses of potential. Maybe they were all just nervous for their first game.

The defense left a lot to be desired but that was to be expected this early. I'm sure Geno and staff will get them there by late in the season

Before the game Geno said that though she looks much improved from last year, she doesn't look like freshman year Caroline. I'm not sure where she ends up by the end of the season, but my plan is to appreciate her journey and be grateful she's even back on the court at all.

We are thin at point guard.

KK is good as a defensive player but not that consistent scorer we need at guard.

Kaleigh looked very slow on defense and offense and does not make me believe she will be a premier guard.

I can see Azzi being the main point guard bringing the ball up with KK.

Otherwise the main players will be Williams, Strong, Shade, El Alfy and maybe Ice.

I am holding my opinion on Kellis Fisher. She looks fast, can handle the ball and might need a couple of games. The remaining new

players look very raw and we can only hope there is a significant jump in their development as players.

A couple of anxious moments when KK and another UCONN player (they never panned back to the court to identify them preferring to interview Morgan Tuck).
Obviously, individuals and the teammate must be cut some slack today, but Sarah and Azzi look terrific, Serah is a force under the basket and on the boards, Ice is a terrific passer, Caroline's shot is off thusfar but she looks healthy and very quick, and Ash and Allie are going to be deadly from the outside.
As expected there were a lot of nerves out there which should wear off in time as everyone gets to know one another and trusting themselves on the court.
I have a feeling that there will be a lot of practice hours dedicated to fine-tuning their press, keeping guards from cleanly driving through the lane, defensive rotations in general and executing entry passes (& catching them) on offense.
A welcome return to the court, though - so much talent! I can't wait to see it develop.

Nice! KK is a rock like Nika was. She could play all 40. She can penetrate whenever she wants to. She was driving baseline and kicking a lot toward the end.
You don't trust Sarah from 3? She hit monster 3's down the stretch last year. 2 man game with Azzi is gunna be nice.

Didn't get to watch. It sounds mostly positive but still a lot of work to do.

Considering last year's team lost to Columbia in a scrimmage and the coaches/players ironed out the wrinkles enough to win a natty, I don't think a 17 point win over a P4 school is a bad start.

I felt like BC broke the press often by flashing their post player to the free throw line or so and our post did not follow. I didn't get that. Serah and Yanna expecially. That's a steal with our athleticism.
