I love both of these kids, and I couldn't be happier with this season (OK, I could be happier, we are UConn afterall), but after a game like this, they deserve a little good natured abuse

why were they so bad today?

1) believed all their hype after the Cuse game
2) partied until 5AM, maybe with Wolf
3) Nova sent over 6 hot cheerleaders to occupy them and their thoughts
4) they can't function at 12 noon
5) Nova is simply the matchup nightmare we (I) thought Cuse would be
6) chit happens

I thought Bazz had a bad game and a couple bad decisions, especially the 2 early fouls. But then he short rimmed everything but was playing hard. On the other hand Boat had a really awful game and showed it which I didn't care for.

But as far as the vote - #6 - happens!

12pm start is brutal. Why would anyone schedule college games that early anyway. The students have a hard time getting up just to go watch the game. Imagine getting up to play at 8-9am on a sat. As a college student. I'll take #4 for 100 Alex.

Bazz and boat struggled against long, physical defenders. Also, they really sagged on our wings/bigs to double on the drive

Yep. I think they were trying to come hard and put the game away early. The two quick ons on Bazz took him out of his game.

How many airballs did Boat shoot? He had passes stolen easily they were so telegraphed.

He really looked sick or out of it. Very concerning after his improved play against Syracuse. Bazz was shooting the ball with no arch and seemed to revert a little with some of those old wtf plays and decisions. Getting the 2 fouls the way he did was bad judgment....he hurt his team.

Of course, we got a good indication of how important he is in the way we could not score at all for a long stretch until KO brought Bazz back in and the ball started to move again.

Another point is that our guys just cannot guard guys like Pinkston or block out Pinkston or Yarou. We just can't have too many things go wrong and win in the Big East. Our guys cannot get overly confident to the point where they lose any edge at all.

Agree but disagree that our guys "cannot" guard or block out these guys they just don't.......out willed is all it is and out smarted. Pinskton was just beating people to the low blocks and living there, move him out. He can't shoot the ball so don't worry about him outside the block and beat him there. He's not any tough guy or strong guy he just gets it and goes after it. Time for our guys to read shots, not block shots every time they see someone penetrate and just rebound. It was flat out ugly......we pick up the loose balls on the floor and despite 6 points from Bazz and Boat we still win - simple!! Killed right there! Gotta want it, dive, push, box....they did!

Anything but #2. If Bazz was benched for being 5 min late to a team lunch, KO probably wouldn't have let him or Boat be in the same state the next game occurred in if they were in contact with Wolf during his suspension. KO sees you when you're sleeping and he knows when you're awake. He knows if you've complied with team rules so comply for goodness sake.

Can't even compare to the two today. Bazz played poorly, it happens. Guys have off nights. The two early fouls killed him and after that he wasn't playing aggressive. BUT, we were still better with him on the floor. I have never seen Ryan Boatright have a game like yesterday. His shot wasnt short rimmed, it was a huge brick that would miss the rim entirely. It was all downhill after that. After sitting on the bench for a long stretch of the second half, he game back with such a bad attitude, I feel it was that sequence of a bad pass, no defense, then a turnover in traffic that actually cost us the game.

The TO in traffic was an awful time to be overzealous with the dribble...too much mustard at a time when we needed a real good possession and a solid shot. The thing is Bazz made a critical mistake also in an alley pop pass attempt at an ill advised time. Having said that I agree with you, he was still positive while Boat had a noticeable attitude. I also have an issue in more than this game, when he shy's away from making a play on a fast break but instead allowing for easy lay ups. I know that sometime it is best not to foul but at least make a play, jab and retreat something......hope and wait for the guys to get back if he misses. His defense should be better, he should be able to keep the little pimpled kid from Nova in front of him....kids hot you change from the guys looking for the steal and dunk to the guy making his life miserable trying to get a shot off. He had a good game vs Cuse but i still feel he's a bit of an enigma.........waiting for the light to go off!!

Boatright's play and body language reminded me of Dyson during the final stretch of his senior season. Checked-out and ready to move on. I've been Boats biggest fan all season and see some serious potential for the kid, but he's gotta bring that passion and energy we saw against Cuse every game if he's thinking about a future in basketball.

On a positive: Love what we're seeing from Omar and Neils over the past few games. And Tolksdorf?!... pretty great to see the kid make the most of the time he was given.

Bottom line: Crappy game. It happens.... so my vote is for #6. Hopefully Ollie can get these guys motivated and re-energized for Cincy.

I love how everyone knows what's going on in boat's head. He was awful, but let's hold off on calling him a cancer and blaming his attitude when it's very easy to get flustered on the court during a bad game.

Bazz and Boat both played like crap. It was bound to happen eventually, and we're not good enough to win with them both playing so poorly, especially the way we rebound. Let's just forget about it and move on to Cinci.

Agree on all 3, Omar, Giff and Leon.....

Just one scary thing with Omar, when Bazz went down with 2 his game went with Boat's, out of control dribbles and awful passes. He, for now, needs someone instrumental in getting him looks and setting him up for success. he can't rely on himself for now. Although he did have the balls to go to the hole and get fouled I am impressed with his confidence lately. If he can make his handle more positive for his offense and can pass the ball beter he'll be a real good one!!

This! No one knows if the kid was hanging his head because he was giving up or because nothing he could do could generate the ability to overcome having a bad day and that bothered him. Just plain ducking funny how so many of us with shortcomings and incapability of being at our "best" 24/7 can't understand that athletes are human. Alright, not funny. There is a rational explanation for peoples need to rant against players. They aren't perfect. And thus it is full circle.

No one asking to be perfect fleudy ever, just asking to keep their heads out of their respective a**es? Didn't we have enough attitude last year for 10 years to come - this team doesn't play like that or act like that so the first sign by a player of not having "Ten toe in" is going to cause a stir............

By the way aren't you at your best 24/7? :D

In no way am I best 24/7 which is why I can relate to a team or poster shortcomings. I'm not a guru or advanced soul. Just someone who struggles daily with the rest of us. I'm expressing observations with the intent of hoping to bring our collective game (humanity) to a higher standard. Sometimes I present these suggestions free of my emotional investment (when I'm at my best) and sometimes I don't ( just an ordinary dude trying to fight my way out of my emotional garbage). But I believe either way it has a value.

As far as getting their heads out of their a**es I would love it as much as you. But happens (pun intended).
The difference for any team is how many guys are able to avoid playing ostrich. But the reality is even for the best teams there are days when multiple people find themselves in that posture. And when that happens they lose. And it happens to all teams. This team needs almost everyone to stay out of that position. That's an incredible amount of effort over an entire season. Most of us are aware of physical limitations but not emotional limitations. This team is emotionally and physically spent. They will have down time as a result of that. I'm not making excuses for them. I'm pointing out human behavior. There is no difference in understanding human behavior vs. a skill such as ball release for optimum scoring. There are limitations to everything and willing things has limitations. I can tell someone to execute a certain way but it doesn't mean that advice can be successfully completed. If I told someone to jump 42 inches off the ground and point out that there are people who can accomplish this I would be putting an unfair expectation on the average person. It would be unreasonable to conclude their failure was bad attitude.

I have to say I was at my best about one thing in this thread! I had put it at a high probability you would respond to me!:) You mummu!

Bazz had a bad game and Boat had a terrible game. He was obviously feeling bad when nothing went right for him and it showed. Although I am perfect ;) , I have actually gotten discouraged at times in my life. I think we have to be careful in judging Boatright by this one game. If he continues to play like this then he may be worthy of criticism. In the game prior to this against Syracuse, I think we don't win that game without him. I still love the way he plays and am looking forward to the next game.

By the way I would add Daniels to the list of those who are clearly getting better.

Bottom line is that Bazz is the straw that stirs our drink. Boat just needs to learn to let the game come to him, relax and stop the attempts to showboat or make a highlight play. For example hands folded behind your back, when backpedaling on defense???? He needs another year to mature and finds ways to contribute when having bad games, and not trying to force his offense. I hope Bazz stays and continues to become a good example for Boat, as Bazz was similar to Boat in many respects last year. Boat is a sophomore and still developing as a Div 1 guard. He's in good hands with Ollie.

Boat can improve both mentally and physically.

Improving his decision making will make him a better overall player.

Also, Boat should have a better handle. He needs to work his ball handling.

Ollie makes changes from film sessions - so it will be interesting the adjustments he makes. He has coached great this year but the second half of the Nova game there were some things that did not make sense.
Leon does box out better than Tyler but is a little less long. He is a much better shooter than Tyler - but needs to display that in games consistently. He did step up with his family in attendance.
As for Boat - when the Chicago crew is in town - keep him at an undisclosed secure location.
As for Noon games - a bad idea.
