Are Role Players. Very Good ones at that. Not insulting them at all. That's just who they are. Boatright and Drummond will be leaders if they both stay another year. Lamb is a scorer not a leader. Kemba was both which is rare and why we were so good last year. We had a leader and a scorer in Kemba. Then another scorer in Lamb. The two great role players in Bazz and Oriakhi. Now we have a scorer in Lamb. No leaders though Boat and Drummond have the personality and potential. And once again role players in Bazz and Oriakhi. Lacking the leadership is what's killing us. Making leaders/scorers out of role players aka bazz and oriakhi isn't going to help either. It isn't in there genes. These are our main issues in a nutshell.

Switch "are role players" to "are awful". Utterly pitiful performance again by bazz.

I'm sorry but Shabazz is a cancer right now, at this point. He doesn't penetrate, he takes wild shots and his on and off ball defense is terrible..he can't defend anyone.

They are not awful when they stick to being ROLE PLAYERS. When they try to be leaders/scorers they can't do it. When they play as role player like last year they are very good. That was my point.

Im sick and tired of watching Shabazz dribble around the top of the key, miss our open flashers, then hoist up an off balenced, scissor kick shot. It disgusts me.

Shabazz looks of his teammates every freaking time. Lamb flashes across the lane, Shabazz looks him off and continues dribbling, Boatright flares out for an open 3, Shabazz lookks him off and keeps dribbling. I'm done with him, nobody is playing well but Shabazz is the biggest problem by far.

I was actually coming on here to post this very thought.

He is a TERRIBLE point guard right now.

Once he touches the ball, the offense stops. Everytime.
He actually needs to be benched. Permanently. Until he learns he is a point guard, and not Kemba Walker

They both came off the bench and have been beyond Awful. They can't be starters or bench aka role players.

Not at all. The difference is/was night and day when Boatshow was running the offense. 13 points in three minutes to start. The rest of the first half went to hell because of Shabazz. No coincidence that this happened when he got on the court.

I can make some pretty extreme statements but right now Shabazz is playing worse than any point guard under Jim Calhoun. He is absolutely useless right now. Can't shoot, defend, pass, run the offense, or push the ball. Nothing

Well I agree SN sucks and should only play limited minutes. Let's see Brendan Allen get a few minutes. We might not win but it might help for next year. I think SN and AO are what they are very limited players due to lacking athletic talent.

Mike I would like to congratulate you as you have provided a great analysis of the problems of this team. There is nothing to add to this, and everything you said is absolutely correct. Napier should never play more than 15 minutes a game and that should only be when Boatright is in deep foul trouble or needs a break. You can' t make a leader or a star out of bench player and role players as you pointed out and this is the problem that this team has.

Oriakhi a role player ?? You guys are nuts. Is he playing bad/slumping now - yes. Did you guys watch any games last year - he was a huge part of winning the national championship.

You do know that I am Oriakhi's biggest supporter and think he should start every game for us. I was talking about Napier but Mik's analysis is spot on. Starting lineup for the rest of the year should be

1: Boatright 2: Lamb 3 Roscoe 4 Oriakhi 5; Drummond

Yes I did watch it. And key word...Huge PART. I love Oriakhi, he is a beast. But a beast with limited ability. Not a pure bread leader or scorer. Now Drummond...that is what a leader looks like. This team will get better as Boat and Drummond become better leaders. That is the real key to this teams success. Then Oriakhi and Bazz and Lamb will get better because of them. Lamb will always a great scorer but mainly Bazz and Oriakhi need leaders to enhance their game. They are not leaders themselves.Boat and Drummond will transform into stars eventually. the key is WHEN NOT IF. That is what I predict will happen over time and when they do this team will be SCARY good.

The OP's point wasn't wrong. Oriakhi was a role player on the title team last year. Really everyone was except the guy in my avatar. Lamb emerged as a supplemental star in the postseason. We needed Bazz to step up into a more prominent role this year, and it started OK, but it's gone off the rails lately. He has to dig himself out of it - he made two FT's after a turnover against Kentucky in a micro perspective (and was terrific against Butler in the second half). Now he needs to do it on a more macro level.

I have been pretty hard on Bazz but have always supported him because I thought he could be one of the best pg in America this year.

Honestly, I'm ready to give the keys Boat.

However, Bazz is definitely not as bad as he has played during the last few weeks. When he had confidence earlier this year, he was a much better shooter.

The most disappointing thing though is his defense. He deserves less playing time for the time being.

Remember when Shabazz was quick and could actually take someone off the dribble? It's becoming a distant memory.

...or could actually steal the ball with good defense. What happened?
