so glad Flowers is gone. Kid was an absolute beast: Battle to replace Quinton Flowers only just beginning at USF...
Ask South Florida offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert to explain what makes his two quarterbacks different, and he won’t do it.
With Quinton Flowers graduating and taking nearly every school record with him, USF has an open-ended quarterback competition on its hands between junior Brett Kean and sophomore Chris Oladokun.
“When you think about Chris, he’s probably a little more …” Gilbert answered earlier this spring, before stopping himself. “Both of those guys can run. Both have a quickness to them. Straight-line speed, Chris is probably a little faster. Throwing it, both throw it well with accuracy and can touch any part of the field.”
In other words, the coaches don’t want to give any indication that anyone has an edge in a battle likely to go into fall camp.
It’s a huge question mark for a team that’s coming off its second consecutive 10-win season, was one win away from a division title a year ago and has been ranked in at least one major poll for 20 consecutive weeks. It’s perhaps the biggest position question in the American Athletic Conference.
