"Batouly never has had a problem playing hard,” Auriemma said. “That’s not an issue. It’s something we’ve come to expect. I’m never surprised that Batouly plays hard. She struggles a lot of times to get up and down the floor the way she used to. Things get a little sideways sometimes in the lane and in traffic, but Batouly’s effort has never been a question. She plays hard. She competes really hard.”

So, is she sound and fit or not? She's an enigma to me.

Camara working hard to contribute more this season

And this from Batouly is hard to parse, but it is history I think:

"Camara sat out the 2016-17 season per NCAA rules after transferring, then struggled to get on the floor last year. Hampered by a right knee injury, she made a minimal impact, averaging just 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds over 4.8 minutes per game.

“I really had to lean on my teammates to say, ‘You’re here, we need you, you’re a vital part of our team. What can you do to help us?’ ” Camara said."

I agree. She is a mystery. What exactly is wrong with her body that could not be healed in 6 months after the end of last season? Does anyone know.

My, we do need her against ND and MS and Baylor, the teams with the really good bigs.

she seems less mobile then Morgan Tuck who had really serious knee issues..........I don't believe Batouly ever even had knee surgery did she?

UConn never explained what was wrong with her. They didn't even put out a proper press release. I don't think the public even now knows what happened to her, and why the injury is so severe.

But it appears that she suffered an enormously damaging knee injury that is hobbling her permanently. Clearly Coach Geno knows that she's trying, but that she is not the same player.

Batouly appears to be a wonderful young lady in her early 20’s that has the terrible misfortune of having 40 year-old knees. When she described the 1 hour process that she goes through just to be able to practice, I felt both inspired by her dedication and saddened for her trials and tribulations.

Doesn't sound worth it to me. But I always worry about long-term lasting damage. If she is happy doing what she must, more power to her. I wish her success.

I could echo your words, but it would be redundant so: T?
Thank you. You and many others wish her the best and hope for the possible. Thank you.

Thanks Rocky, I'm so pleased Geno sees the player she was, she could be, she may be--but is hampered by injury, damn it!
This assessment backs up the words of Rshermvike and Oldude--Uconn's team needs more fans like these. Thanks again Rocky!!

2 things to take away from this article: 1. Like Ms Hunter; Geno give back to effort and is loyal to those injured..
2. All these years of playing hard has a cost and 40 year old knees on a 20 year old body is just the beginning. of payback. Soon, WCBB, WNBA, AAU shall take steps to fix this malady that causes so much pain, one would hope!

IIRC she’s got some sort of patella tendon damage, leading to chronic tendinitis.

That is simply not correct. UCONN put out a press release regarding Batouly knee injury prior to the game against Stanford last year. I'm not sure what you were expecting or what in your mind constitutes a "proper" press release. This is/was typical of what is released to the press regarding any player.
The statement read:
"Sophomore forward Batouly Camara, a transfer from Kentucky, will not be available for Sunday’s regular season opener against Stanford in Columbus, Ohio.
Camara has been out with a bone bruise in her right knee. She is still wearing a brace, although she was shooting and riding a stationary bike during practice Friday.
She is expected to be back within the next week, but her availability is yet to be determined. Camara (6-2) averaged 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds as a sophomore at Kentucky two years ago."
