Personally, I accept Dave Benedict at his word - but I also strongly believe that what he said would not be in conflict with Mike Tranghese currently actively exploring other options in his consultant capacity.

If our football program was better, Mike could solve two client problems (SEC basketball and UConn's conference) all in one transaction!

Back to reality - here's what I believe:
1) There is resistant by some Big East schools to UConn since they think we would pull out for football. Although other schools very much want us.
2) Everybody ( Big Ten, ACC, Big East) wants to play their tournament at least some years in NYC and Brooklyn has a great building but none of the other stuff compared to MSG and its location by Penn Central and in Manhattan. UConn would give the Big East a leg up given its proximity and fan base to locking down the prime dates at MSG.
3) Some people believe the UConn basketball brand has a life span of 2 more years unless conference changes aren't made. I don't necessarily buy that because injuries played a huge factor this year - but regardless that's what people think.
4) Fox (Big East) would be much more flexible with dates and times then ESPN. Proof of that is that PC was able to move two games when the time conflicted with Patriot games. I also heard that the XL was one of the most inflexible buildings to work with! Not surprised! Their management is totally inept.
Our attendance got killed this year with strange game times and going up against local NFL teams. Fox games are usually Wednesday and Saturday with some Tuesday and Monday games. Much better for gate attendance revenue. Are you listening Dave Benedict?
5) If we go Big East route we could cut better revenue deals for UConn with SNY
6) If Aresco wants us so badly why does he screw us in our local deals?

The NEW Big East is, in my mind, only a possible third option behind the ACC and the B1G
I feel that mens basketball, in 5 years, will dictate power conferences, etc
There is too much crackle and buzz about football injuries and youth football is taking a huge hit - losing out to lacrosse
High schools are consolidating teams and the cost of a football program is getting crazy
Not saying that football is going away but I really think it has hit it's apex and is on a downward slide - parts of the country more so than others
Just my opinion - not an expert statement by any means, just an observation

Some people believe Elvis is alive.
Some people believe the walk on the moon was staged on earth.
Some people believe internet pornography is patriotic and vegetarian.

Truely, my man what are you smoking?

It is patriotic, dammit, because Americans don't deal with sex out in the open. There's nothing more American than being shamed for rubbing one out. They don't care in Europe. And as far as vegetarian, there are far more cucumbers, bananas and carrots involved than kielbasas.

Btw, I want to nominate "Basketball" as thread title of the year.

I'm sure that everyone agrees that the ACC or B1G would be preferable destinations. However, after the Big 12 debacle this summer, how likely is that?

About as likely as a seven seed winning an NCAA championship, a 9-9 regular season conf. record team winning 11 postseason games in a row and a football team down by 25 winning the super bowl. I like our chances.
