UConn put the basketball practice facility out for bid on 01/30/12. Budget is $25 to $28.5 million. Site work to start late summer/early fall. 25 page bid package is posted on UConn's Capital Project webpage. I'm unable to provide a link. Maybe some computer savvy Boneyarder can post the bid link.

I think this is what you are talking about...

http://www.cpca.uconn.edu/BID DOCUMENTS/201434_Basketball Development Center/UConn_RFQ for Basketball Development Center.pdf

The Project:
The University of Connecticut is in the process of designing a Practice Basketball Development Center to house the Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs currently located in various buildings on campus. It intends to build an approximately 76,000 GSF two-story building on the site of Memorial Stadium adjacent to Gampel Pavilion. Construction of the new facility MAY NOT adversely impact the operations of Gampel Pavilion.

Populous, an architectural team specializing in NCAA Basketball facilities has been retained to develop design and construction drawings as well as provide construction administration for the new building.

The new multi-purpose training facility will provide two indoor NCAA practice courts, meeting rooms, training and education spaces, locker rooms, offices and miscellaneous support areas. Based upon the building typology, the building has been deemed a “Threshold Building” per the Connecticut General Statutes. All required permitting and review leading towards full occupancy of the building will be provided by the Office of the State Building Inspector and Office of the State Fire Marshal through the Connecticut Department of Construction Services.

The university anticipates the release of an early foundation/utilities/site preparation package in late summer/fall 2012 that will include underground utility connections and site work in preparation for the building’s main construction phase.

Project Cost:
  • Budgeted Construction Funds for Basketball Development Center and related site improvements - $21,500,000 to $25,000,000.
  • Budgeted AV, Signage, and FF&E - $3,500,000.
Schedule:
The Design Team is currently working to meet the following schedule in providing the following services:
  • Design Development through Completion of Construction Documents for CM Bidding - 12 months (includes required building official approvals and bidding/negotiations)
  • Site and Foundations Preparation and Underground Utilities Package - Late Summer/Fall 2012 Construction Start
  • Building Construction - 14 – 16 Months exclusive of early package construction

I can't imagine the demolition of the west bleachers of Memorial Stadium will be easy.

A few well placed pieces of explosives will drop that concrete seating in seconds.

With a new championship, we can lead the mob straight there and throw some cars on them. I'm sure that'll take care of it.
