The W season starts on Saturday with a triple-header. Huskies playing include Stewie, Sue, and Tuck for Seattle; Kiah and Kia for New York (I think Meg is still out); Diana and Bria for Phoenix; but Tina is out for Washington.

Not only that, July 25-26 is the weekend that Geno's players are expected back on campus. We think Anna may be delayed, but we expect everyone else. Hopefully, we will get reports on how the newbies mesh and how the returners have improved. I'm excited to see them. Though we lost Crystal and Meg, we have 5 talented players returning and 5 promising frosh coming in. Paigemania officially starts this weekend! Christyn, Liv, Anna, and Aubrey were playing good, focused basketball the last time we saw them (at the AAC Tourney).

Received an e-mail from WNBA:
WELCOME BACK TO WNBA LEAGUE PASS

The WNBA is back, and for the first time ever, teams will be playing all their games at a single site. You don’t want to miss a second of this unprecedented season as we look to crown the next WNBA champion.

Last year saw some of the most competitive basketball to date. Napheesa Collier dominated her way to Rookie of the Year, Dearica Hamby made a near half-court buzzer beater to send the Las Vegas Aces to the semifinals, and after five hard-fought games in the Finals, the Washington Mystics came out victorious. The 2020 season looks to be even more exciting.

To ensure you don’t miss out on any of the action this year, we’re auto-renewing your WNBA League Pass subscription and offering a 25% merchandise discount with your renewal. This year, you’ll have access to hundreds of games from the past five seasons on-demand and at least 50 live regular-season games for 2020.

Your WNBA LEAGUE PASS subscription will renew for the 2020 season on August 17, 2020 with no action required by you. The billing information on file will be charged $16.99, at that time. To update your billing information, or to cancel prior to this date, visit leaguepass.wnba.com and sign in to your account.

It's an exciting time of year where we can all imagine the great things each
individual husky is going to do this year and the great team that will hopefully result
from their efforts.

Unfortunately these optimistic visions are clouded by the nervous realization that
it can all suddenly go away, like the NCAA tournament did last year.

I remain hopeful for 1) a season and 2) a great season.

Why can't Anna just come in from a different country? Can't she travel to Mexico or Canada first, then come to the U.S.?

Be warned that a “mania” can consume a town, and make fans go screaming into the night. I’ve seen it 3 times here in Los Angeles. First it was the Lakers “showtime" in the early 80's. The very next year it was “Fernando-mania”, which I’m proud to say I was a part of. LA Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela became an overnight sensation and a Demigod during that time. The games he was scheduled to pitch were often sold out. His thousands of fans wanted to see him play in person. He usually gave them their money’s worth. There was nothing like being at Dodger Stadium on the nights he pitched.

And lastly we currently have “LeBron” mania. I’ve got to admit, I was part the first 2, and I’m enjoying this one. The Lakers have mesmerized the LA sports world with their “choke hold“ on the western division. Laker tickets are not cheap, yet thousands of Laker fans here are more than willing to pony up the price of admission to see ”The Chosen One” and his teammates vanquish the competition before sell out crowds.

I’m hoping Paige can do the same in and around Connecticut. A ticket to a Laker home game at the Forum was the hottest ticket in town. I’m hoping Paige can make UConn women’s tickets just as hot. How nice would it be for the the Huskies to play in front of a sell out crowd for all of their home games.

Sell outs still happen. The Las Vegas Raiders have not played a game yet. It was reported on ESPN that every seat in their new home, "Allegiant Stadium" is sold out for their inaugural season. I have a feeling that's going to be a hard ticket to get for the foreseeable future. Being part of a sell out crowd is fun.

I’d love to see Paige and company have a 4 year run similar to that of Stewart and co. That would be enjoyable to see and experience.

I was a witness--on TV--to Strasmas/Strasmania. Stephen Strasburg, the #1 overall draft pick over a decade ago and the 2020 World Series MVP, made his MLB debut on June 8, 2010. The full stadium was buzzing on every pitch. Over 7+ innings, he struck out 14, including some on 99 mph fastballs. Stephen has since had surgery and learned to be more of a pitcher than a thrower. His career, at age 32, in on a nice trajectory, at $35 million per year.

No can't do that but she can hitch a ride to the intl space station and then land in Cape Canaveral, Fl..she can Uber to the Georgia line and then take the Undergrown Railroad to D.C. from there she can Amtrek to south Phillie and Geno can pick her up and take her to New Jersey where C.D. can take her over the GW bridge to New York and take the New Haven line from Penn Central..rent a car in New Haven and drop car off in Bradley Intl. and my sister who lives near said airport will pick her up in her Jeep(she will bring her dog along but she is a good dog) and drop her at Foxwood Casino (she likes the slots) and then on to Storrs. Anyway that would surely work...

I was in LA during the first few years of Fernando's career there. He was truly a phenom. And the Dodgers were much smarter marketers than their cross-town rivals the Angels.

The Angels at the time played at the old Anaheim Stadium, as did the Rams. They had high ticket prices and attracted the affluent, conservative Orange County crowd, but usually not much of a crowd. These guys might buy a Coke or an ice cream at the game.

OTOH the Dodgers still had $3.00 bleacher seats and attracted a large contingent of local Spanish speaking fans (Los Angeles has the second-largest Spanish speaking population of cities in the Western hemisphere, next to Mexico City). These people were thrilled to come out to see their Mexican superstar Valenzuela, and other Spanish speaking Dodger stars like Candy Maldonado and Pedro Guerrero. As you said, the stands were frequently packed, and much of the crowd was young guys who might drink $25+ worth of beer at the game.
