When you’re the other senior catcher, behind Winkel, who also has a hose but you have to play LF....

Last summer Chase Gardner played for the Healdsburg Prune Packers (yes, it's a great name) of the California Collegiate League. I checked out that teams website to see if Gardner was still there and found a UConn recruiting surprise.

On the Healdsburg Prune Packer website, a player named Cole Brodnansky has his school listed as UConn, so it appears he is the latest California JUCO for the Huskies. Brodnansky is a catcher who last played for Santa Rosa Junior College.

If Coach Penders can convince Burrows that continuing to develop under their watch, this will be an extremely talented group of commits. Burrows has to do what’s best for him and his family, but the UConn staff continues to pump out 1st Round draft pick pitchers. Burrows still has room to grow physically (6’2, 185) and can go from a guy throwing 90-92mph to a guy throwing 95-98mph at UConn.

Langer is an IF from Chabot College in CA. In 42 games, he hit .407/.515/.630 with 7 HR and 50 RBI. It appears that he spent his freshman year (2017) with UC Davis and didn't too too much there. He played mostly 3B at Davis, but got a fair amount of time at SS with Chabot.

He actually played at UC Davis in 2016. No record of playing anywhere in 2017. Looks like he will have red shirt Junior eligibility.

Two California JUCO's becoming Huskies in the last couple of weeks. College baseball recruiting season is starting to kick off into high gear.

I have no idea who might be leaving UConn's baseball program besides the seniors and Zac Susi, but it sure looks like the competition for spring roster spots during the fall ball season will be quite interesting. With transfers from other schools, California JUCO's, and five freshmen position players coming into the program, I'm currently counting 23 known position players competing for about 17 position roster spots.
