Our good friends at pgcrosschecker state UConn has landed a nationally elite 2 way player.
Not sure if this guy plays 2 positions, or excells in 2 sports.
Anybody a member there?

I found out about this 2 way player, and more. The 2 way player is Zack Kesterson a 6'1" 185lb ss/p from Oriskany NY, just outside of Utica. He is a 2015 recruit, that's #2 for that year, Rossamondo is #1.
For 2014 we have a commit from Dan Rajkowski a 6'1" 185lb RHP from New Caanan.
Both are high honorable mention AA's.

Here's another recruit according to pgcrosschecker it's Gerard Speigel a 6'1" RHP from Trumbull who was clocked @ 86 MPH in Oct. Don't know anything else about him.
On another front Milone had a heck of a football game last night. According to the CT Post, the NY Yankees are visiting with him this weekend. Obviously, they will gage his preference, college or pros before making any draft decisions on him. I'm sure other teams will meet with him to gage his preference.
Also, Taylor Olmstead intercepted a pass and ran it back 97 yards for a TD.
If Malone, Olmstead & Garabedean play in the same OF, it's one hell of an athletic OF.

Someone may have already mentioned that Taylor Olmstead was drafted in the 13th round by Texas.

This is a huge, huge pickup for Penders and the program. But, and there always is a "BUT", we'll have to hold our collect breaths' with
this one, as MLB is all over him.

2014 recruit Nick Lamberti (East Haven High School), IF/OF commits to UConn.

http://nhrbaseball.blogspot.com/2013/07/good-eye-east-havens-nick-lamberti.html

>>East Haven outfielder Nick Lamberti committed to the University of Connecticut. The outfielder had another strong season, posting a .589 batting average and .740 on-base percentage with 21 stolen bases and 20 runs. Lamberti, who will be a senior in the fall, said the scholarship offer is still being discussed and that he is going to use his senior year to decide what he will major in.

He was also getting looks from St. John's, Hartford and Southern Connecticut State University, but osaid he is pleased with his choice and happy to get this weight off his shoulders before his senior year.

"I'm really happy, now I can just go into every game and play like no one's watching me," he said. "I've already committed, I don't have to worry about anything."

The outfielder said defending Big East champion UConn's future is bright and he wants to be a part of it. He joins a long list of the state's best high school players to stay home and play for UConn. All-State players like Amity pitcher Sam Nepiarsky, Foran catcher Joe Zanghi and Fitch shortstop Aaron Hill have all decided to play for the Huskies.

"I think they've got a shot to go to the World Series in Omaha," Lamberti said. "They're in a new conference, new teams, a lot of travel. This is Division I baseball and its one of the best schools in the northwest (sic)."

Havent seen him play baseball, but I did see him play hoops. Looks like a CF. I know he handles and shoots with his left.
Gritty kid. .589 in the SCC is pretty awesome!

.589 is a great average in any league. Penders was quoted in today's NH Register saying he likes this kid because
he never strikes out. He also stole over 20 bases.
Sounds like a great lead off guy.

According to this mornings Meriden newspaper, Joe Rivera a RHP from Southington comitted yesterday. He's been clocked @ 91MPH and was the most valuable pitcher in the CT vs MA junior all star game.
His HS coach says MLB scouts are looking at him. He pitches tonite for Southington's American legion team vs Avon. Usually the Courant
reports these scores.

Housatonic pitcher, Willy Yahn commits to UConn. 6-0 175 Right hander.

>>Housatonic’s ace pitcher Willy Yahn has verbally committed to play baseball at UConn, two days after fellow Berkshire League player Zach Risedorf, of Northwestern, did the same.<<

(see video on Risendorf in post #150 above)

Yahn, Risedorf commit to UConn

Housatonic third baseman Willy Yahn and Northwestern catcher Zach Risedorf both made verbal commitments this week to play baseball at the University of Connecticut in 2014.

Yahn and Risedorf will enter their senior years of high school in the fall. They can sign their binding letters of intent Nov. 1.

Yahn hit .662 with 12 doubles and four home runs for Housy this spring. As a pitcher, he struck out 102 batters in 67 innings. Yahn had narrowed his choices to Virginia Tech, Boston College, Stony Brook and Maine.

Yahn and Risedorf are both playing for Team Connecticut AAU 18-U and are in Richmond, Va., this week.

Risedorf hit better than .600 and led the Highlanders to a 19-1 regular season, the Berkshire League title and the Class M state title game in June, losing to St. Joseph of Trumbull, 2-1.

"All of the state Division I schools called, but UConn put on a full-court press and it's a great fit for Zach," said Northwestern coach Tom Germano, who played baseball at UConn from 1973-77 and was a 1976 All-American. "Zach's a kid you don't want to lose. He's a five-tool player. He can run and can throw, and is just a super hitter."

First Team - 2013 Providence Journal Baseball All-State team -- "Toppa not only became a starter in his first year of varsity competition, but he was a star. A few weeks into season, he became the No. 3 hitter in the Hendricken lineup and his offensive production played a major role in the Hawks' drive to the Division I state title. He hit .429 with a slugging percentage of .675 and an on-base percentage of .522. He scored 23 runs and had 28 RBI."

Nico Darras hit .350 for Mystic in the NE collegiate league. He has 3HR's including one in the playoffs.

PG Croschecker lists 5 recruits incoming for UConn in 2014. Four of the recruits listed are Rajkowski of N.Caanan, Reisdorf of Winsted Yahn of Housatonic, and Gorgas.
They don't list Riley(MA), Darras, Lamberti, or Rivera . This means there is one more 2014 recruit. I don't subscribe there. Anyone know who that mystery 5th listed 2014 recruit is?

Actually, Zapata committed in Aug. 2012 as a 2013 recruit. He'll start school shortly. I'm trying t.o figure out who this 5th 2014 recruit PG Crosschecker mentions
