Demon Deacon home run makes it 2-0 after the 3rd. According to Chris Jones, this ballpark is a bandbox, so there could be lots of offense tonight.

T6 | Melley crushes an RBI double to right-center field and we are all tied up! #UConn 2, Wake Forest 2. #BleedBlue

... and bottom of inning poor Melley loses a ball in the twilight, drops for a WF double and they have now scored 2 runs. RAdue gets strike 'em out/throw 'em out double play to limit damage.

4-2 WF

On one of the few positive notes for the night, Max McDowell has thrown out two Wake Forest players attempting to steal to tonight. I think he has thrown out somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% for the year, and that is quite good.

UConn loses 6-2.

In the post game interview, Penders confirmed Montgomerie is pitching tomorrow. Which is fine, but it makes me wonder when and if we might see Sam Nepiarsky and/or Callahan Brown on the mound. Nepiarsky in particular did very well in pitching in summer ball, so I was kind of hoping that would carry over to this season. I have no idea if he is injured, or what.

Maybe he'll do a 3 innings per guy (Montgomerie, Brown, Nepiarsky) type of thing. Kind of what Wake did to us tonight.

Strikeouts plaguing the offense again.
For comparison, here are the UConn's team ratios of K/BB in recent years. Generally speaking, you can live with high K rates if they are countered by high BB rates.

2015 - 1.66
2014 - 1.46
2013 - 1.53
2012 - 1.94
2011 - 1.47
2010 - 1.37
2009 - 1.51

It's not great, but given how high the K rate is I would have expected it to be worse. 2015 is a pretty small sample size of 17 games so it can come down pretty quickly with a few good games. Of course it could also shoot up with a few bad games. They're also stealing 2 bases a game at an incredibly efficient rate so they are capitalizing on walks and singles every chance they get.

Just remind yourselves that opponents have a pretty awful 4.83 ERA against us this year so no harm done so far. Overall, the offense has been pretty efficient despite the high K rate. If they can get that K/BB ratio down below 1.60 they should be fine.

Montgomerie has been terrific through four innings. Sounds like he will be on the mound in the 5th as well.

Offense explodes in the 6th for 7 runs. 8-0 now. Solid bounce back performance so far.

Max Slade coming in to relieve Darras in the bottom of the 7th, two outs, one runner on. First batter he faces get on an infield hit, throwing error by Siena. We'll see what happens, big lead, he gets some work.

One walk, one hit by pitch, and one run later, Max Slade gets the final out of the inning. All in a night's work for Max.

I agree that there is no better time to try and give Slade a chance than with an 8-0 lead but after a walk and a hit batter he just appears to be a mess at this point.

Davey just got his third double of the night. Maybe he is coming out of his funk. 10-1 lead for UConn, still in the top of the 8th.

Uneventful 1-2-3 8th inning for Max Slade. It's probably been a long time since that has been said.
