Back around 1939 my wife's grandfather (Homer) hooked up with a local guy named Roy Dissinger who scouted for the Cardinals. The scout took young Homer around and did local camps here and there looking for talent. One funny story was at a game in St Looey Homer was asked what he thought of a young kid in left field. "He's alright. Nothing special, tho". The kid was Stan Musial. Homer was sent home to start a life as a Traveler's insurance man.
Homer passed away recently and slowly I am "inheriting great collectibles. Ten "Who's Who In Baseball?" books from 1939 through the 60's. .Cool programs from past world series.
Then my wife brings home a small photo album. He was at Fenway on April 5, 1940 and was at the rail snapping black and whites of Red Sox and Washington Senators. Jimmie Foxx gave him a few poses. As did Joe Cronin and Bobby Doerr. The one pic missing is Ted Williams.
