Was JUST thinking/wondering about her... miss her smile.

I think the term "warrior" describes no UConn player better than Barb Turner. Her performance
in that regional semi against Georgia was a career highlight for sure.

I always wished she had been gifted with better knees and 6-1/2 height (not boneyard height) :).

I really liked Barbara. Diana once described her as "a different kind of cupcake."

She had a terrific senior year which, as I recall, began inauspiciously. I think she was hit over the head with a beer bottle by some guy's girlfriend. After things began to click for Barb and she started playing really well, Geno famously said: "If I would have known it, I would have hit her over the head as a freshman.''

Forgot about her knees, but her heart was so big- she played like she was 6'2 or 6'3"!
Never say die attitude- a true warrior!

2 great quotes in 1 post!

The obvious question: When does Barb sign with the Mystics? :)
Mike Thibault had her with the Sun, and wound up cutting her in mid-season. He commented that he got tired of hearing such an experienced player make regular misplays and say "My bad" when she returned to the bench.

She was (and probably still is) similar to Kalana and Kelly -- under six feet in height, but able to leap high enough to get plenty of rebounds despite that. Like them, she is not a prolific scorer, and that is a serious limitation on her WNBA potential.

Don't remind me, the interregnum between Diana and Tina was horrible. No telling how many ships we would won if G. Goring had been admitted in 04. We had BT playing the post at 5-11!!!!!!:(

BT has been working steadily overseas for years... its not like she's coming out of retirement

I remembered her problems were more than knees. In reference to her junior year:

"As a freshman two seasons ago, a fracture required the insertion of a rod in her right leg. This season, the rod began to irritate her leg and a screw was removed. Turner also missed four games because of an injured left foot.
But until now, deep into her junior season, the problems with her feet and leg had gone to her head, Auriemma said."

While we're playing woulda shoulda coulda, if she hadn't cramped up, we would have beaten Duke her senior year to get to the final four.

Barbara was always one of my favorite players. Got to meet her once, at a fund raiser on the University of Hartford campus. A real sweetheart. Got my picture taken with her, and she put her hand on my shoulder. I am not a little girl, and that hand really COVERED my shoulder. And it felt so heavy and strong, like the muscles inside of it were made of iron. I can still feel it.
