Don't forget also that at the time, there was a very, very real possibility that they could easily jump ship to the Big 12. That's not to say Herbst and Warde didn't completely get outmanuevered by Jurich while they sat at that basketball tournament in Bermusa, but it's not a 100% guarantee that we would've gotten the invite had they made the right moves.
