So they were "lucky" in a sense that it hadn't cost them a game yet, but the continuous stream of bad shots finally caught up with them.

  • High degree of difficulty layups
  • Quick, out of rhythm threes

And my personal favorite, the worst shot in all of basketball, the on-the-move 2 point jump shot.

These are all shots that great players make and for parts of the season different members of the team were able to hit those shots. Not all of them were hitting in the same game, and not every player that could hit them did in any particular game

And then, SC played the toughest, most physical defense they saw all year and none of them were hitting any of these shots.

Bottom line, IMO, is that for some odd reason, the 21st century game hasn't caught up with Geno yet. Three pointers and layups. That's it. My only wish is that the moving 2 point jump shot is relegated to the dustbin of history.

UPDATE: I do SO love people that react negatively to something, but can't be bothered to offer any reasoning.

There is tough, physical defense and then there is taking 2 players from your starting lineup and telling them that instead of playing team basketball, to go and faceguard and bully the other teams best players for the entire game. That strategy works for that game, but as expected, they have nothing left for the next game.

I don't disagree with you at all. Just trying to be as generous as possible to what you'd call what SC was doing.

Wonder what Paige would say about your "worst shot in all of basketball".

Running two-pointers are used in the mid-range pull up for a "stop and pop" or floater to counter aggressive defense. Also used during fast breaks. Used frequently when an open 3-pointer isn't available. Kobe was a master at it. To me, it's a high-skill weapon that can catch defenses flat footed. You're of course entitled to your opinion but guess we could leave this saying we have a different opinion.

What you're describing is called "shooting off the dribble". (obviously inside the 3-point line) All really good players MUST have this skill. I think what you mean is that it is a dumb shot to shoot a jumper with your foot or feet on the line. I do agree with that. Ash was struggling with that in the last couple of games. Do you want everyone to just spread out beyond the 3 point line and hoist 3's without penetrating or going inside? Sounds hideous! Time to start watching other sports more.
Any old farts like me care to talk about basketball before the institution of the 3-point shot?

I loved Ash shooting with her foot on the line, those were the ones that went in!

I couldn't find the UConn- Gamecocks game on ESPN Friday eve ---- all I could find was some SEC football game... at 7pm ET.......??
Maybe my lousy $549 75" Samsung TV ??
Lousy Xfinity ?? I have only ....400 channels..??
It was a really great, rough football game !! But on April 3?? Ohhh, ...musta been a Spring game !!

You know, I'm a 26 year veteran teacher and being an old fart, I suck at technology. Ask your nearest 4th or 5th grader. I did a lot with tech, even robotics, because I could always ask a kid if I got in a pickle.
You not finding that game is criminal!

If you have internet service that includes practically any sports package, and can navigate to espn.com, then there is a "Watch" button in the navigation bar that will take you to where you can find replays by clicking on the date.

It also doesn't work in the next game against a physical inside team and a closer refereed game.

.-.
The refs allowed SC to go over the back of UConn players for rebounds and allowed them to hold Sarah (not grab, hold) which they didn't allow in the game against UCLA....when SC tried to go over the back or hold Lauren B. they were called for it... i don't know if UConn would have won the game if the refs would have called it same way in the Semi as in the final but for sure it would have been a different game and much closer if not a clear win for UConn.

When in doubt ask a kid...

In the last 18 years in the 21st century, Geno has been to the FF 17 times when they have had a tourney. I think most coaches would like to be "not caught up" like that. As for the moving away jumper, I agree it is a difficult shot, but it is also an unblockable shot and Ash, Sarah and Kayleigh shoot it and while I don't have the percentages of makes, I would not like to see it discarded. Kayleigh and Sarah both made several during the year to my immediate recollection.

Are you serious or did you actually miss the sarcasm of the post by @Superhuskies that you replied to?
Or maybe I'm missing something too?

The 21st century started in 2000. Since then Auriemma has won 11 NCs. I don't think he's going to need your advice or theories.
