Since 2017, the defending champion has now lost in the either the 1st or 2nd round. With the exception of the 2024 UConn Huskies.

And, unlike Florida this year, they didn't get upset. If last year's team got out of the 8-9 game (higher or lower!) they probably make the S16 using their performance against eventual champion Florida as a benchmark.

I'm in agreement - and you don't have to look much further than how these guys are doing in the NBA. 2 future all stars.
That 2024 roster fell into place perfectly, with a little luck (Spencer). 3 carryovers into their year 2 along with Spencer and a stud freshman.
