Azzi on her Elevator Screen Play

Can someone find this play?
Go to the replay in HuskyNan's NCAA Tournament game replay thread pinned at the top of the threads and fast forward to the start of the 4th quarter to find it (or watch the complete game).
I wish I had the ability to capture highlights of YouTube videos, but I don't.

here you go, link to the play, at video time 5:09

It would seem the elevator screen lit the pilot light for Azzi's best two back-to-back games in her NCAA career because of the stage she was on in Tampa.

Go Huskies!!!

Can't wait to see the next 40 games with a healthy Azzi and all this season edition of The Huskies!!!

That play is the epitome of what makes Geno a great coach. Azzi struggled through the first 3 quarters. Not making a shot. USC closed the gap entering the fourth quarter and who does he draw up the play for? Azzi. By doing that he showed the trust that he had in her ability to knock down that shot but also to get her confidence built back up for the rest of the tournament. She made the shot and was the final four MOP.

Agreed. That one play may turn out to be the biggest single play in Azzi’s career. She hit another 3 and a great backcut basket shortly afterwards, followed by 2 great FF games, earning MOP. In so doing, hopefully Azzi has banished the demons that plagued her confidence in big games.

I can’t wait to see the 2025-2026 version of Azzi Fudd. Another national championship? Back to back Final 4 MOP? NPOY? WNBA lottery pick? It’s all right in front of her.

i hope that will continue to be the case for her last year. it obviously has been a problem in the past. please don't make it a jinx to talk of it.

If Azzi is doing videos talking about that play, I’m pretty sure that any discussion here on the BY will have absolutely no impact on her performance whatsoever.

I suspect she'll have competition from a teammate for NPOY. You know the saying keep your friends close and your NPOY competitors closer.

ha ha. THAT is the very thing i'm worried about ... if she thinks about it excessively -- maybe even a bit -- it's an indication it's an issue in her mind. hope her pals and counselors can help her out. remember, azzi is a self-described over-thinker.

One of the attributes that all great shooters have in common is “no conscience”. KML, KLS & CC could all miss 5-3pt shots in a row. But they knew they would make the 6th.

Yes, Azzi overthinks at times. But for someone who may be the best “catch and shoot” 3-pt marksman in WBB, I think she’s over the hump. Throughout her days playing in games and practices, Azzi has probably made a few 100,000 3-pt shots.

For the greatest shooters, it becomes a reflex: catch the ball, square up, release the shot. Azzi is among the very best and shooting 3’s is only a part of her offensive game. She is a great midrange shooter. She can take it to the basket and she can drop some beautiful dimes.

This will be Azzi’s year. Mark my word.

The player that I think you are referring to just might kick someone off Mt. UConn after 3 more years. Time will tell. And this would be a good, a very good thing.

Paige and Sarah were a memorable pair last season. I have a feeling Azzi and Sarah will be another one this season. All three of them share a mentality: they want to win more than they want the individual limelight. They seem as happy helping someone else score 30+ as doing it themselves as long as the team wins.

To your point, in addition to being able to score the basketball, both Sarah & Azzi are exceptional passers. Sarah was 2nd only to Paige in assists. Azzi was 5th on the team behind Paige, Sarah, Kaitlyn & KK.

Teams that face UConn have to pick their poison. Do you possibly risk doubling either Sarah or Azzi, when there are so many other scoring options on the Huskies and Sarah & Azzi are both incredibly proficient at reading the defense and dropping dimes on their teammates?

Azzi was a critical part of the Big Three last year, and I suspect she will be the same with this coming years' Big Three along with the 2 Sa(e)rah's. Its been quite a few years since we have had a #5 who has the abilities of our new Serah, who can open up the perimeter for Azzi.
