I wanted to post an update. I'm not sure of the exact problem, but it's clearly related to Adobe Flash running in Safari. I've never worked with Flash, so I'm not going to speculate, but it certainly looks as though the site uses Flash in some capacity. (perhaps someone can enlighten me on the specifics). At any rate whenever I access the site with Safari, the Flash plugin crashes, the browser locks up until I use Activity Monitor to force quit Flash.
I tried updating Flash to the latest version ( I already have the latest version of Safari) to no avail. As you might recall from my previous post the initial symptom was that the main page would only load the first ten titles in the thread list. Mac OS X Activity Monitor would show that Flash CPU utilization was at or near 100%.
In order to access the Boneyard using my default browser, I finally blocked the Flash plug-in for the site and all seems to run fine. I've never been a big fan of Flash and I know of other sites where it doesn't play nice, but the issues with Flash and the Boneyard seem to be noticeably worse than others. I haven't the time or inclination to look into whether Google Chrome and/or Firefox have similar issues with Flash and the Boneyard, but if someone has time to look into the Boneyard/Flash/Safari connection it might be enlightening.
