Hope that Aubrey becomes every bit as good as Gabby was, being so athletic it's an easy comparison to make, and Aubrey is inch or two taller. But Aubrey's footwork around basket needs improvement- not on layups, but when it's packed tight. I want the coaches to work on her skills around the basket. Yesterday, she seemed to lurch towards the basket in tight situations. If she could learn to pivot and shoot a nice fall-back jumper, or utilize good footwork with shot-fakes. I want her to shoot the 15 foot shots that she gets sometimes and improve her shooting just like Gabby did. Gabby really developed nicely while at UConn. Maybe Mir McLean will become the next Gabby- can she shoot?

Nice post! I think Gabby was more mature physically, even as a freshman. Wasn't she close to a world-class high jumper? I remember an interview with my favorite golfer, Jordan Spieth, when he was hot, regarding advice for youngsters: "play as many sports as you can when you're young". Jumping is a skill too. Gabby knew how to jump. Remember that play in the middle of the court, when she swooped, stole the ball, and laid it in.
Never understood why Gabby could not hit that free throw line jumper consistently. She was a decent free throw shooter and her form was decent. Maybe because she was such a good jumper, she could never get it right when she shot.

Gabby had a world class body with pretty quick feet on defense and a great first step on Offense, and she was a way underrated passer. Aubrey has lightening quick hands, a nose for the ball, and an uncanny ability to finish around the basket. I think eventually Aubrey will put up more points than Gabby, but unlikely to ever be as good a passer.

Gee I always thought Gabby’s best jump shot was the foul line jumper

One thing that Gabby did in her junior and senior years that we haven't seen from either Aubrey or Mir is her instinct to jump into passing lanes while on defense, and then jump out of the gym to steal the pass. I remember a play like that early in a game against Louisville which seemed to basically decide the course of the game.

Gabby was always where she was supposed to be on both offense and defense. She obviously studied the scout on each team and knew it backwards and forwards before the game. Mir and Aubrey are getting better at that, but they have a long way to go to be comparable to Gabby.

How about we let Geno and company develop Aubrey to be Aubrey.

I can't imagine any category that AG will ever be better than Gabby was. But if she is close I will take it.

Gabby had much better control of her body, even as a freshman. Also, she learned to shoot.

Athletic ability is similar. Ball handling and in particular passing is not even close. Remember Gabby guarded people like Wilson at SC, and yet in the WNBA with Chicago actually played some PG.

I know Aubrey isn’t at Gabby’s level now, but I’m hoping she’ll improve with her shooting and footwork. Aubrey seemed clumsy moving around basket a couple of times- it is a goal that I hope she can achieve. Does Chris Dailey help coach on that?
