ISU guy weighing in. You are spot on for the inflated attendance for ISU (and for most all schools). There are a lot of GA kids packages etc sold every year. I've used the same point using our last hosting for the NCAA as a good barometer. Gets me sideways with some of my own but I point out that our 5,000 - 6,000 actual "cheeks-in-the-seats" is still very good. Even if we only counted scanned tickets we would still be Top 10 which is pretty great for a currently unranked team. Startling difference when you watch game across the country in near empty arenas (like ISU at Houston last night). Back 15-20 years ago our claimed 9,000 - 10,000 was closer to actual attendance for conference games. It's a very dedicated fan base and somewhat unique for a team with a ceiling of an Elite Eight every 15 years or so and a Sweet Sixteen every five years. A good solid program but far from one of the top programs, just has always had crazy fan support. The "Clark effect" is, of course, real and makes Iowa's claimed attendance VERY close to the number of people at the actual game. Heck, you only need to look at the attendance for Iowa road games to see that. Or flip the TV on for a home game. The attendance numbers are somewhat ginned up by all of the schools. I wish they would all report actual scanned tickets. It's not like they have to ask how many paper tickets each ticket minion tore off!
