With both exhibition games drawing under 6,000 does this mean season tix for both venues are even less than this amount? Or did attendance figures not reflect actual tickets sold?

I think this team will build fan support as the season goes on, but I was hoping for multiple Gampel sellouts (besides just Louisville and Florida) as well as some 14k crowds in Hartford.

Wishful thinking?

I wouldnt read that much into attendance for 2 exhibition games that also happened to fall during the week. At times over the past few years, the attendance mainly at the XL has been below average for the "cupcake" teams. I have a feeling attendance will be up this season because we will have a winning team. Its a shame but whenever you have a good team it brings out the fair weather fans.

But if the crowd was only 5,500 tonight, wouldn't it stand to reason that they haven't even sold that many season tix in Hartford?

I wouldn't be too worried. They were horrible exhibition games. This team will have plenty of fans in attendance at all games.

That would stand to reason but it's so low it seems impossible.

I know of a couple friends that got the 5 game flex which came with an exhibition game and both of my compadres did not attend.

Seems like you're assuming every season ticket holder went to the game

Many, many season ticket holders that sit around us in 115 were not there last night. We spread out with seats in between us just so we could have some elbow room while drinking our $9 beers. :) .

When I was a single guy with no kids, any game was a good game. There is almost no chance that I'd go to a game against Concordia now. I wouldn't read into it at all.

Do they report the actual attendance or the tickets sold? My season tickets are in the same row as last year, I would think they would have gotten better if we lost a large chunk of season ticket holders. That said I've never really been clear on the seating policy.

Actual attendance is recorded. Two exhibitions had to go up against the World Series one night and MNF the next. Tip for next week, the Yale game at 3 on veterns days won't be well attended either, but I will be there.

Migs: Thanks clearing it up. My original question just asked if they reported actual attendance, or tickets sold.

Do they also report just actual attendance for football?

No -- it means a ton of season ticket holders didn't bother showing up.

They report tickets distributed.

They also report tickets distributed for football as well.

Pretty sure basketball reports actual attendance, and football reports tickets sold/distributed. Can't recall the source.

They report tickets distributed.

How is that possible? I just went on to try to buy single game tickets for the Stanford game, and there's only tickets available in 4 sections, and they're pretty much just the top 10 or so rows. Did that many tickets sell in an hour?

No they hold them for packages.

Did they change it? If you go back to the exhibitions the past few years they published around 8k. I wasn't there last night but there was nowhere near 8k in the building for the exhibitions the past few years.

That makes sense. Still, if XL holds 17,000, then I'd say the arena was at least 1/3 full last night, so the 5,000 number seems legit as far as number of fans in the arena.

My seats In 205 moved back 3 rows. I've been a season ticket holder for 15 years and donate to football with 5 tickets...it would be nice to move down. A few rows once every couple of years but I guess that is not going I happen.
