Forget about walls, the infrastructure guts of an ice rink built around 2000 are far removed from anything resembling new circa 2016. Mr. Conehead's likely on to one reasonable possibility.

If UConn ends up with a Freitas expansion plan for the ice hockey programs, then this explanation of how it might be done sounds reasonable to me.

PS - I could be wrong about this; but, I believe Freitas was build right on top of the old Hockey Barn and uses the exact (hopefully upgraded) platform/footprint for the ice (whatever that is technically called). I remember watching soccer games from under the Barn when it rained. It would explain why Freitas was build so close to the soccer field - it was a way to save money.
