I caught a few women's softball games on ESPN last weekend under the auspices of the "Athletes Unlimited" organization. Did a little digging on their website and the business model and how the league operates is intriguing. They are starting with softball and are planning to expand to volleyball in 2021.
As I understand it, sponsors have provided a pool of money. There is a minimum income for each player and then they can earn more based on how their individual performance and how their teams perform so it operates similar to a fantasy league.

Is this a viable model for women's professional sports (and perhaps some underexposed men's sports), including basketball? I guess we'll find out.
