Lucky you - Omar Calhoun is still on the team & will play.

My eyes. I see a really fluid solid hardworking Daniel Hamilton: and I'm not going to speculate on how many years. The kid is good & the kid is confident. And that's what is dragging Purvis today (and Omar). Lucky us: we have KevinOllie to coach him up. My eyes tell me Purvis will be more valued than Omar. We do need one of them to really be a good 3 pt shooter. Like Cassell Jr. I am surprised with Sam I Am - he's savvy & knows both how to play plus when to press a shot.

If we were talking this time last year, we might say that Tyler Olander is going to have a stellar year. How did that work out? I expect to see Brimah play far better; I expect to see Facey make some offense. I'm not site we are going to see far more from Nolan and much this year from Rakim. Samuel may be one of my favorite guys to watch.
Agree with everything except for the Olander comment, we all knew exactly what we were getting from Tyler.

Agreed except for the part about Omar. He's been injured for a year now. His jump shot hasn't really improved and he doesn't have a great handle so not expecting much from Omar. The fact that Cassell is this good already means Omar must be efficient and play hard on defense to get any meaningful minutes.
Agreed. More so just meant that a healthy Omar (freshman year Omar) would be a huge spark on the floor for us. But you're right, if last year is any indication of how he plays this year, we start to have depth problems.

People are drawing way too much from these two exhibitions. Two years ago, Napier was a mess against the first couple D-2 teams he saw while Omar Calhoun was establishing himself as the best pure scorer in program history. Alex Oriakhi was pulling down 20 rebound games and drawing comparisons to Okafor and Adrien back in 2009. My gut tells me the posts about Hamilton being the best player on this team will look similarly reactionary by season end.

It's a Sunday morning game against a D-2 school. If you think the game against Texas three weeks from today will bare a vague resemblance to what we saw a couple hours ago, I think you're being a prisoner of the moment.

Good post.

Don't take too much from the final margin- Assumption hit three three's in the last minute after the walk-ons checked in.
You're right about that. We were up 18 with a couple minutes left and those 3's were crazy lucky...one circus shot from deep in the corner went off glass.

Yikes, we get Texas in 3 weeks? I hope they haven't looked much better than we have.

Our FT shooting has been fairly concerning I must say, especially after the historic run of games we had 7 months ago. Doesn't matter who you are, who you're playing, where you're playing, or when you're playing; you should be making your FTs.

Their FT shooting was so good last season, I sort of expected a small decline. If the struggle carries to the regular season then I'll be disappointed.

We lost Bazz (87%, got to the line most), DD, NG, and LK, who were all good to great FT shooters.

We were an amazing FT shooting team last season. Not many teams shoot that well over the course of a season. We should definitely expect a decrease in accuracy this season.

Poor free throw shooting team so far? Only out rebounded Assum. By one today, with 35. SCjr & Ham have been good.
Sounds a lot like the first three quarters of last year no?

First time seeing Hamilton and he was really impressive. He can shoot, handle the ball, distribute and played good defense.

On another note, I hope we never get those refs again. It was a freaking exhibition game so let the players play. They were consistent but they were calling every touch and bump it seemed like which completely ruined the flow of the game.
I didn't see the game but it does help to play with those types of refs, especially in exhibition. Sooner or later they will meet similar refs, so this experience could help then and may help win that game when it happens (via adjustments).

Ollie could go with DHam at pf, Brimah, Boat, TSam, Cassell. Force the other team to make adjustments. Press full court. Use speed over size. Substitute as guys improve. He will have his eight man rotation come league play. No worry here. At this level the best five, no matter what positions, wins.

I get that we won't be shooting 90+ percent, but I don't think we should have expected two games out the gate with under 66 percent.

Yes. It was a blowout.

I think too much is being made after 2 scrimmages. Talk to me on Feb 1st. By then we`ll have a better picture of what this team could be and even then its not guaranteed. Does anyone remember what this team was playing like in its last few games of the regular season last year? No one expected the run we had. Lets enjoy the process of watching this team grow and develop their own identity.

When we won it all in '04, we were a terrible FT shooting team, with Okafor and our point guard Taliek Brown shooting under 60%. Last season was an anomaly. We were much better from the line coming down the stretch. Most teams don't shoot that well. If we shoot over 70% we will be good.

These are exhibition games, so things will shake out.

Don't get me wrong, I think Hamilton will be a star, too. He's a hell of a talent. I just think expecting him to be better than our senior captain is a lot to ask.
True but the 3 leading scorers in this game may be our 3 leading scorers this season. The good news is that everyone will get better as they learn to play together. KO may not know what he has until the league schedule begins.

The amazing thing about Free Throws ... you can coach the kids to be better.

And, I think Glen Miller got some significant pub last winter about just his topic; he's up again ... still on the staff. Repetitions. Psychological mindset. Confidence. I think this set of Huskies should be pretty good at the line. (not nearly as shockingly pure as last March's production - that was as good as I've seen)

And it is a blessing to have a kid like Hamilton look so good early. Boatright has been fine. But, seeing a FR as the most notable guy on the team ... that's CBB in 2014.

Exactly. Coaches have different priorities in what they teach teams the beginning of each season. This team has a completely new make over from last season other than the five position in which AB and PN are in similar roles from last season. Ryan has the most experience under KO, but he is in a new role. Everyone else is starting from scratch.

There have only been a limited number of practices. What has the coaching staff been focusing on in these practices? Will the dynamics change as the season progresses? Will the skill sets improve? We'll find out.

The only thing to be legitimately worried about is the free throw shooting. Sub 60% with no pressure on is concerning. Plus, we do not have the shooters that we had last year and will be much more reliant on dribble penetration in our offense. We will need to be good from the line.

Yes. It was a blowout.
We were only up 5 without about 12 to go in second half. We had a good stretch for the next 8 minutes to put it away but I thought we struggled most of the game with turnovers and poor decisions. They will get better, lots of kinks to work out.
