What's TJ Weist doing these days???

edit: Great minds @noeynox

We are all thinking this. UCONN just recruited a bunch of receivers. Ten at last count. What better guy to bring in than TJ! He would be a VIP in Diaco's organization and the heir apparent when Diaco gets recruited away. I have to think this might be TJ's best shot at an FBS head coaching job within the next 5 years.

Maybe there is something going on that we don't know about. Last I knew his wife was employed by UCONN and is still in the area. He's obviously popular and it would stimulate the fan base. One negative might be is he's not in the same Hayden Fry Coaching tree. He coached at Cincinnati in 2010 under Butch Jones, a year after Kelly brought Diaco with him to Notre Dame.

Seems like a natural to me but there are too many variables to know. With Foley gone, I wouldn't be surprised if Cummings becomes the Offensive Line coach. Let's wait and see and hope for the best.

From Fuller:

"A source confirmed that 2014 offensive coordinator Mike Cummings is still on the staff and he will likely move over to coach the offensive line which is something he has done successfully in the past. The Hartford Courant first reported that veteran offensive line coach Mike Foley will not be part of staff moving forward which I was able to confirm."

I can't see Diaco bring in someone who was the interim HC and had some success before he arrived. I can't imagine it'd bring a warm, fuzzy feeling to be coaching and knowing there's a guy on your staff who might be more well liked or have better connections with some current players who played under him when Weist was the interim. Seems like this would be a recipe for unrest between the coaching staff and possibly players. Just don't see it happening.

This also shows why we have two mobile/dual threat QB's and now two Pocket Passer QBs on the roster, maybe? Diaco didn't know what his new OC might favor so he's got some of both in Boyle/new walk-on and Sherriffs/Davis. It's more likely Diaco knows what offense he wants to run and will pick a coordinator who runs it as well but you never know.

Overall, thank goodness Diaco had the balls to make this move!

It's the right call, but we are in for another year of offensive transition... Which terrifies me.
When post Orlovsky have we not been in offensive transition, we've never had an offensive identity, maybe when we "ran power", but that severely limits against more talented opponents.

agreed... why the heck did he not make this decision 4 weeks ago? Just sayin... Hopefully he might have someone in mind... someone that is in the know that kids historically want to play for. We need another 'splash' pick here guys... Hope it goes down that way...

I think with our current QB situation we were in for a terrible year again on offense so hopefully the OC hire can make a quick connection and show improvement towards the end of the season to give us hope. I ahte thinking 2015 will be another wash but there's not one QB on our roster that I feel comfortable with. Two true frosh and a transfer we have never seen and was gonna be moved to FB at NC State plus Boyle who was terrible this season. Just not going to be pretty unfortunately. Just hoping the new OC shows us something exciting and new to pin our hopes on.

At least this news puts a reason to why Foley was let go (if he was indeed let go). Diaco knew he needed to switch the OC. However, he obviously likes Cummings and thinks highly of him, or he wouldn't have brought him on to the staff. The only other thing to do in order to keep him is to move him to OLine. Bad set of circumstances for Foley. Had Cummings been a WR guy previously, I'm betting that Foley would still be on the coaching staff for 2015...

I don't think any of these guys would consider UConn right now.

My guess is we go after a top FCS OC with at least 6 years experience. And if I had to place a bet, I'd say it's Tim Cramsey from Montana State (played and coached at New Hampshire; from PA). Very explosive offense.

I, of course, expect to be completely wrong.

You gotta point there with the FCS OC thing bro... We need an explosive offense.. we're light years away from to being anywhere's near being anything like that... I'd be happy to see us infuse new life on that side of the football... Some pretty decent offensive minds have come from that New Hampshire program...

Isn't it safe to say that the job posting is written to the specifications of the guy they have in mind? If that is true, we should be hearing about a new hire fairly shortly.

If you're going to think New Hampshire, former Delaware Blue Hen QB, and current OC at UNH Ryan Carty is a good look when it comes to knowledge of the recruiting terrain, and running a productive offense.

Two True Frosh? I identify with scholly QBs... no disrespect to the walk on coming in from Fairfield, but at this level, if we're not coming into camp with at least 4 scholly QBs, none of which are top tier QBs, it's concerning, to put it lightly...
