APG is now down to 12.8 on the season. Last three games 9.3. Memphis leads the conference at 17.4. We are 149th in the country. With two PG playing together we should be much better. Clear indication of lack of ball movement. Another cause for the low APG is the poor hands of our big men.
That's a truly horrendous number. Even more concerning, they're down nearly 1 assist per game from last year, despite having a larger number of options. (Omar being a shell of himself has certainly hurt the offense at times.)
I know criticizing Ollie's offense isn't allowed on these parts, but it really needs a lot of work. Yes, it's hard to have a consistent offense when it is so reliant on guards and hitting perimeter jumpshots, but that doesn't explain the complete lack of ball movement at times.
For comparisons, let's look at some of the other guard-oriented teams in college basketball since UConn's backcourt is considered to be among the elite. Granted, this is a very simple comparison, but here is how UConn stacked up against 'em:
- UConn: 74.9 ppg, 12.8 apg, 1.1 A/TO ratio
- Villanova: 79.9 ppg, 16.0 apg, 1.3 A/TO ratio
- Michigan State: 77 ppg, 17.3 apg, 1.5 A/TO ratio
- Oklahoma State: 81.3 ppg, 13.6 apg, 1.3 A/TO
The only one on that list they're close to is an underperforming Oklahoma State team. Not a good trend.
