For what it's worth, Newsome is having a very good off-season, thus far. Playing for both Ansonia and the Jack Cochran coached CT All Stars in various passing leagues. Ansonia has been dominant, including a victory over Cochran's All Stars in one tournament. Ansonia looks loaded for another run at a state title. They return nearly all their skill players on offense and they return six 3-year starters on defense. Ansonia's, Andrew Matos (WR, 6'1, 200) and Xavier's Tim Boyle (QB) are also on the CT All Stars. Matos is an interesting kid. He is flying way under the radar. I don't know his academic history, but the kid is as talented athletically and physically as they come. If he was in a passing offense the kid would, without a doubt, be an All State WR. Great size, speed, and athletic ability, very physical player. He made one of the greatest catches I've ever seen in the Class M Championship Game against Ledyard. Good possession receiver with the ability to stretch the field vertically. He caught 22 passes for 496 yards (23 Yds/c), 6 TDs in 2011. He has 46 career receptions, 849 yards, and 13 TDs. He will be a senior in 2012.
Stop the video exactly at the 2:10 mark, then watch the next :06 closely. On a slip screen, Matos (#4) leaps (looking like the Jordan Jumpman logo) snatching the ball out of the air with one hand, picks up a bone-crunching block (from #6 on Ledyard's #16 at the 2:14 mark), runs over a DB, and picks up a first down.
