Arizona scores a touchdown to make it 48-48 with the extra point giving them the 49-48 lead with 19 seconds left. Nevada's coach called their final timeout after the touchdown. Why on earth would you do this?
With that timeout in your pocket all you need is a good return and a good pass to get into field goal position. You call the timeout and take your time setting up the field goal. Granted they ended up throwing an interception on the first play of their drive but honestly what reasoning could you have to call that timeout before the extra point? Trying to ice the kicker? Do you have some fool proof extra point blocking formation you are going to draw up out of nowhere during the 30 seconds you get to talk to your time during the timeout?
Again, it didn't end up mattering but sometimes I wonder how these coaches don't use their timeouts more effectively.
