I recently joined Cockytalk. I have yet to jump in and make a post. Don't really know what I'd say but I enjoy talking WCBB in general. While I do think that the UConn fan base is the most knowledgeable (I'm might be a bit biased) sometimes I wonder what I'd be like to be on an opposing teams board so I figured I would try it out. I am looking in to others as well as the Cockytalk board. So the questions are... How many of you are member on other boards? Why do you chose to be? Has it been a good experience?

I really like the Baylor fan site - quite active and generally well monitored so discussions are interesting:
http://www.baylorfans.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18

I also visit the TN site from time to time - the free one which is a little less crazy than the old Summitt site - some interesting insight and also very active.
http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-lady-vols/

I pick and choose the discussions to read, and always remember where I am - only occasionally do I actually post and I try to be uncontroversial as much as possible.

Other sites I have visited are generally not very active, difficult to maneuver, etc.

Will check out Cockytalk and see if I like it.

I'm too much of a UCONN homer to be a member on any other boards. I choose not to be because the Boneyard gives me all I can handle. Where else could you get such snarkiness as above from our Tobacco Road "Guest".

From what I've been seeing BY seems to be the most active, maybe we just have the most to talk about with our players and coaches having more to do during the off season.

Yes. Im a member of the Boneyard ;)

Ditto...

And UCMiami hit it on the head: "Other sites I have visited are generally not very active, difficult to maneuver, etc."

That's why I'm not on the ND board. The only other one I've enjoyed browsing is the Baylor board.

I find both the ND and Duke boards really difficult to maneuver (haven't visited either in a while.) I do recommend the Baylor site especially during the season - good intel on the Big12 goings on.

I actually tried to join the UNC board several years ago.... but for some reason they denied my request :eek::eek::eek:

The Boneyard is definitely the most active WCBB board ive seen... .. and has enough non-UCONN related threads for non-UCONN fans to participate.

I also read the WBB part of Duke board, The Devil's Den. You have to register to read it-- and I am upfront about my true affiliation there. It's a Scout board (which the old Boneyard used to be) so I find it pretty easy to navigate.

Often, it's a JPM hatefest.

Does the GE Corporate board count???

Is that board you are on decent enough for kids and young women??

Excluding me, myself and I (all 3) this is an amazingly knowledgeable group of characters on many subjects especially Women's basketball and more especially Uconn Women's ball. The data they are able to bring up from across the country and decades ago always amazes me. I've been a watcher/fan of Uconn men since the late 1950's and Geno and company since 1995, I have a personal library of VHS tapes and CD's. But no way can I keep up with 80 percent of those on the Boneyard. So if you do as I do, recite from memory, someone shall surely show you the errors of your ways.

Well I'm obviously a member here. And I've really enjoyed it so far, even when I rustle feathers it's all in good fun. I've tried visiting other boards (maybe I'll check out Baylor's) but none of them are as active as this one. I lurk on VolNation occasionally but don't really feel a desire to join.

As far as CockyTalk.. It's an OK message board. But it can get kind of quiet on the basketball boards because remember, SC is a football school first... and even a baseball school to an extent. SC was pretty decent to pretty good in basketball in the 70s/80s and then had some bad years so most of the diehard bball fans are older but Dawn and Frank Martin are really bringing the younger fans back into it. I would argue the women have more fans than the men right now, according to attendance at least (and Twitter followers). Message board activity hasn't caught up yet but it will. So the fans are spread around. Then there are other SEC message boards that are open to all SEC fans (and outside fan bases to an extent). A lot of SC fans post specifically only on the SEC boards.

There's a small but growing contingent of Gamecock fans that post about WBB almost daily on CockyTalk. Carolina fans are pretty knowledgeable about basketball. As it is now, there's only one basketball board and a basketball recruiting sub-board. I'm a proponent of having separate boards for the women's and men's teams. It's really cluttered right now.

With that said! Come on over! Maybe more visitors will help ramp up board activity.

Agree that it would be nicer to have a Women's basketball board for SC - it is just annoying to sort through the various threads (and decipher their titles) to find the women's posts. With the growth of the fan base and the continued success of the program I hope it becomes more active.

And one of the things I appreciate so much about the boneyard is the number and variety of non-uconn visitors - and the generally pretty respectful way we treat those visitors. It does make the site unique in WCBB. It may be too milquetoast for some of our more fiery fans, but it also makes it a lot more readable.
Time for another shout out to our great moderators!!!!:)

I did notice they were smashed together, the men's and women's BB threads that is but most reads have been decent haven't found a thread I felt like jumping in but over all it's been okay. Every board has it's own set of extremists I have found so there is no escaping that.

I'm a member of the Baylor and Texas board, I'm a fan of all 3 teams, my favorite of the 3 varies from year to year but am always rooting for Baylor UT(the real UT) and UConn.

Whether it's decent for women and children... women I would venture to say yes, children however NO. I do believe (and don't quote me on this since I have only been a member over there like a week) that they do allow for demeaning comments about players from other schools. I can say with certainty I've seen quite a few in reference to UConn and a couple about FSU players. I do not however know the fate of those posters, whether they are allowed to stay etc. But the demeaning comments were left for all to view

Aside than the Boneyard, I'm actually a member of the Summitt (while being very very very very far from being a TN fan, i do like some of the TN players). In addition i frequntly visit the fan boards of most key WBB schools (ND, SC, Duke, UNC, Baylor, A&M, UT, etc.) but they tend to have little activity on them.

Obviously, my home board is the Rutgers Rivals board. I think it is probably more active - at least in season - than most teams that are not top 10. The thing is, many Rutgers fans are "only" Rutgers fans, so not a lot of discussion of things that are not related, and really a relatively small group that does the discussing. Hence, why I read and post on the Boneyard.

It is easy to be a guest on a board, I think. First, a lot of the stuff that is discussed is of interest only to the fans of the "home" team. On an active board like the BY, I don't even try to read them. Second, don't disrespect the home team. And since some posters won't get it if you do, don't "tweak" the home fans (unless you have a rep for it and it is tolerated). And finally, don't be too defensive about your own team. Their perspective on your team / school is not the same as yours.

Incidentally, the Rutgers board has historically taken a few digs at UConn - but only rarely. A lot of respect there, although most RU fans are certainly not UConn fans.

I was kidding- Ithought the Board name too easy a target and couldn't resist.
-I found out that Saying a player (this one on Tn) was a BallHog got me a reminder of the rules for Boneyard from HuskyNan. Apparently they take un nice comments about Uconn Women , in this case Tn too, seriously.
The wonderful thing about Humans is--what they don't know does not bother them. So is it with Boards.

To answer the question posed by the title of the thread, if my answer was yes, it would make me a *male* member of an opposing team's board. And for that obvious reason, among others, I'd really rather not...
