As you all know, Seton Hall is now only 1-14 in the BE, despite pounding Pitt for their only win. But SH is also 2-1 against the CAA (where Delaware plays) and beat FGCU (which is 17-0 in their conference). I suspect SH would be one of the top 3 teams in the CAA, and might even have challenged for the league title. This is one of the reasons I lack faith for Delaware's advancing very far in the NCAA (although it looks like they'll get a 3 seed, which helps them in the first round enormously). I just don't think they deserve that 3 seed based on SOS. Maybe Charlie Creme's idea of a mid-major bracket buster weekend isn't so bad (Delaware versus BYU, Gonzaga versus UNLV, FGCU versus Bowling Green, etc). What do you all think?

Who would you move up?

Until the Big Six commit to playing top mid-majors, we'll never really know.

I like a mid-major clash -- but, I'd rather big six looking at every conference winner and see if they're senior ladden. If no, schedule them. Risk a challenge. Risk a lost.

I don't think Delaware is overrated as with EDD playing they can beat most teams. She can get 30 plus points for herself and if necessary can probably get 40.

Nah, just silliness on Charlie's part. Delaware is plenty good as their RPI indicates.

Delaware is at least legit because of EDD, though their league isn't. FGCU is a feel-good story that will probably end with an appearance and loss in the first round, at best.

If Delaware actually was a one-player team I'd tend to agree. But, I've watched several of their webcasts, and they're not at all just EDD. The others might only be role players, but they are for the most part pretty decent ones. Carra, Lucas, Parker, Buchanan and Miller all bring something to the table. Their biggest lack is an outside shooting threat other than EDD.

Don't know anything about FGCU beyond the Mel connection, so can't comment on that.

FGCU's conference is pretty dreadful.

The CAA isn't "that" bad, Seton Hall would almost certainly NOT be top 3.

The Atlantic Sun where FGCU plays - maybe.

That being said (FGCU feel good story) MTSU is a feel good story and has, at times, given folks a nice scare. They're getting attention, been a great growth story.... maybe they get some players.... Seems like the coach is a real go-getter and knows what to do with the talent he can get (like 'nova - but perhaps with more flexibility).

Oh, and I'm not callin' Temple winning the A-10 championship, but I'm thinking it really loudly... :-)

Decide for yourself -
NCAA RPI Delaware #7
Sagarin Rating Delaware #9

NCAA FGCU #66
Sagarin #64

Knowing nothing about either team (other than EDD) I would guess that FGCU is overrated and Delaware is not.

Delaware beat PSU and lost a somewhat close-ish game to Maryland. Personally i hope they are the 4 seed in our bracket, but they may end up a 3 seed, which would mean they'd need to get past a 2 seed to play us should they be in our bracket. i have a feeling they will win out, and if they do, it will be interesting to see if the committee rewards them with a 2 seed.

I hope they are a 3 or 4 seed in the Raleigh region.... I would love to see EDD in action... missed my chance in December when she was playing about 30 minutes from me at Wake Forest.

You can find and manipulate results however you want. To wit: St. johns is 0-1 against the CAA and 0-2 against teams that played Delaware. Delaware at this point is I think 5-1 against top-35 RPI teams and 4-1 on the road. I can't speak to FGCU, but as others have noted, Delaware's ranking looks about right when you look at losses by the teams ranked behind it. And some people are now throwing Penn State out as a possible 2 seed, and again as others have noted, EDD going for 40 with a capable supporting cast can take down a 2 seed. Like Penn State.

Yes, but we all know how badly St. John's was wounded by injuries to their top scorer and second leading scorer/point guard in the early part of the season. The St. John's team that lost those games was not the same one that beat the Huskies. I can see Delaware possibly winning in the first two rounds (especially with the seeding help) but I don't expect them to get past the sweet 16. I don't see them getting far enough to play the Huskies, especially since if they get a three seed they will have to play the #2 seed in that region first. As for Penn State, having watched the league for years, I think it is (at least this year) overrated: I'd be surprised if the Sweet 16 had more than one big 10 team, if any, still surviving. Anyway, the good thing is that they do play the games and we'll all know how good our predictions are. I think the big east is by far the toughest conference (at least leaving out the bottom 2) and i wouldn't be surprised to see 6 of the sweet 16 being big east teams (although it's likely that some of them will meet other big east teams prior to that point and knock some league fellows out of the tournament).
