AP Top 25 Week 4

For reasons unknown, #14, Tennessee, disappeared.

Maryland is the real head scratcher for me. #7? I would have Michigan at #4. I'd also have TCU up a few more.

I would have Michigan at 5, ready to break into the Top Four when Texas, UCLA and/or SCar lose a game on Thanksgiving Day in the Players Era round robin tournament.
Interestingly, six of the Elite Eight from last year are in the top 8 of today's AP poll. The two that are missing are Duke (no votes, but were within 6 points of knocking S. Carolina out of the FF last year) and one loss Notre Dame (#19, up from #24).

Michigan's next ranked opponents are: Washington #22, 1/1/26; Vandy #17, 1/19/26; U$C #18, 1/25/26; Mich State #20, 2/1/26 & 2/20/26; UCLA #3, 2/8/26; Iowa #11, btwn 2/15 & 2/25; and end the regular season with MD #7, 2/28/26. So, plenty of SOS coming at them.

They will be battle tested coming out of the Big Ten Tourney, and I hope they are on the opposite side of the bracket to take out whomever the Huskies have potential match up problems. If they can take care of UCLA twice (possibly three times: reg. season, Big Ten, NCAAs), they will be a formidable opponent in the NC game.

Go Huskies!!!

I'm glad that the voters didnt follow the normal lose-you-fall mantra. Probably a bridge to far to get them to move someone with 1 loss ahead of a team with 0 losses. Baby steps. It'll sort itself out.

Eventually but right now nothing in their performance supports a 5 ranking.
Heartless computer programs have LSU above Michigan (Massey, Torvik) because they are beating the cupcakes by so much. So, I would not say that nothing supports their high ranking.

Torvik has a preseason component that is phased out after 13 games.

Massey also has a preseason component. As Massey basically solves an n x n equation (graduate thesis here), it could be more wacky than Torvik’s during the blending with its preseason component. Don’t know how long the blending period is.

In my view, the strong SEC is limited by the fact that many of the top teams play each other only once per season. I would be much more impressed if SC played LSU, Texas, and Tennessee 2x each, instead of 1x.
We played LSU twice and Tejas 4 times last year. That can possibly happen again this year. LSU could also play Texas four times this year.

I have zero issue with the current AP Top 25. They got the #1 spot (UConn) correct. After that, have at it.
