Kentucky junior Rhyne Howard is the first player from the school to be named a preseason All-American. She is joined by South Carolina sophomore Aliyah Boston and seniors Dana Evans of Louisville, Aari McDonald of Arizona and Michaela Onyenwere of UCLA.

I would say that's a pretty good list. Last year between the top heavy senior class and early entries there isn't as much existing star power returning.

I don't really think it's the pay scale as much as just more evolution of the game. The college players now have never had a world where the WNBA wasn't an option and they've been groomed mostly in AAU and less from high school coaches. They want to play at a high level and get paid for it, even if it isn't much money or only a few years. Walker, Carter and Sabaly would all have been first or second team returning AAs but chose to leave school. McDonald would have also been a high pick had she left.

I think this will be more common, just like transfers in the coming years.
