And that is the beauty of Elena Delle Donne and the story of the maturity she has gained. As she said she had a path she needed to walk. Blessings to her, Lizzie, and yes, to Geno, too, for how he handled himself through this whole thing. Clearly, there is no animosity in the relationship.

She seems like a lovely person.

The tease ramped up the conflict between her and Geno, but I thought he came off well with his usual insight and humor in the segment itself. I appreciated that EDD acknowledged that Geno was on target when he told her he didn't believe she was burned out on basketball, since he was criticized at the time (by the usual suspects) for being a sore loser, bully, blah blah. I'm a little skeptical that Delaware can make a run in the NCAAs, but I'm hoping for it it because it would be a great story.

Leave it to ESPN to manufacture a controversy at UConn by having Bob Ley talk about "the trouble they're having" without EDD. Seems to me we're still in the mix for a national title after losing a prized recruit and an all-time great in Maya Moore. Good problem to have.

"Trouble" is relative. Losing 2 home games after winning 90 does not look so good. But there are 300+ schools that would like to be in our situation.

If Elena had stayed, we would have won most of the 6 games that we lost. Taking a broad view, it might have been unfair to WCBB.

I would not be surprised if Elena goes to the WNBA in 2013 and becomes a star, while also eschewing the European leagues, at least to start.

EDD and BG will be in the draft at the same time. Who is the top pick?

This was a great piece. I agree that it is nice to see that Geno recognized that she was unhappy, that he could see it in her eyes. I hope that some of those who have hard feelings can appreciate her situation and be happy for her.

of course... EDD (Im gonna play along)

I am actually serious. She has tremendous skills for her height. I can very well see that if a team needs a perimeter player with versatility that they would select her with the first pick. Would Tulsa really need BG when they already have Cambage? In the WNBA it is all about what your needs are in certain positions.

Yikes...being sent to Tulsa might make her decide to stay in Delaware.

I became a bigger EDD fan after watching this story. She really brought so much joy to the faces of the special needs fans that she interacted with. And hearing her say that the only way that she could connect with her sister is through touch made her decision much more understandable.

I also can recognize from that footage that she is a special talent and deserves to be in the discussion for POY.

It's something some of us have understood and knew about Elena for a long time. She has an awesomely wonderful heart. Her appreciation of special needs people clearly goes way beyond Lizzie but was born in that relationship. The clip of Elena hugging Lizzie is all one needs to understand how important the relationship is.

after watching the clip, which was great thank you BYrs, i noticed the part regarding her being in the US pool for Olympics was interesting where the committee members felt she could not guard an experienced 28 yr old professional baller but had the offense to play right now, which i completely agree with. So for my POY Griner is a must... she plays awesome Defense vs. anyone on the court including WNBA all stars...

Defense may very well be the biggest liability of playing in a lesser conference. However, EDD seems the be a good athlete who will be able to develop those perimeter defensive skills.

She's turned into an absolutely fabulous young woman, BB was always a given.
I have no doubt that she will dominate at the next level. The Nowitzky comparison is very apt.

Yes, she will the the "dirk" in the hearts of many teams she plays against.
