Since this is the last BE tourney of any consequence, this is really a shabby way to treat the school that kept the conference relevant for an entire decade when it was on the edge of irrelevancy. Aresco wouldn't even be here were it not for UConn. And no I don't give a damn about autobids or what it might do. UConn fans have been watching this conference for over 30 years now, and for UConn to be barred from the last tournament of the old BE is just shabby, shabby treatment. And I won't forget it.

One more thing: the rule to bar banned APR schools from the tourney was put in place in May 2012 AFTER the NCAA banned UConn. In all prior instances, banned schools such as Syracuse played in the BE tournament. This rule was a special one-off meant to target UConn--no matter if there's logic behind it or not, the rule was put in place this past May. Ex post facto.

It wont change anything but I would love to hear someone question Aresco about this and put him on the spot. There is no good reason for Uconn to be banned from the BET. Based on precedent and what the Huskies have done for the conference. If and when we leave this is one of the reasons I wont have any problem with it. As genius Mayor Menino of Boston would say: "This really fries my nose."

It's was and still is about not pissing off the NCAA and avoiding the bad press of.lifting the ban.

Not to mention a few C7's might want to win a BET game this year.

Like the NCAA doesn't have real issues to concern itself with? Someone should kneecap Emmert just for ha-has.

Well then, I guess the last time we play Syracuse is February 13th.... This better be the loudest game I've ever been at in my life or else something is wrong...

Don't worry, I'm sure it won't be.

New headline: Mike Aresco "probably" a disaster as Big East commissioner.

I left off the punchline. It appears neither Aresco or the BE presidents have read the news lately. The NCAA isn't going to be picking on anyone for a while.

This really does not come as a surprise. I just dont want to hear the garbage from Aresco that the Big East will be a better conference then before after all this is over.

I would like to take this opportunity to confirm, to Mr. Aresco, that the UConn fanbase is departing the Big East, as a result of his decision.

Oh, we will certainly continue to support the Huskies, whomever they play.

But I, for one, will not be watching any BE games that do not involve UConn, and I will be cheering every time I see a BE team lose.

And I will be anxiously awaiting the moment UConn actually makes its way to the BE exit....

Some of you are funny.

This has nothing to do with Aresco. He wasn't here when it was decided and has no influence over it - he's the 'commissioner' of a 15-team league where 12 of the teams are leaving.

The presidents of those 12 departing schools are not inclined to do UConn a favor.

Ex post facto application of rules intended to target only us? What else is new.

Aresco should get some balls and tell them to stuff it. What are they going to do? Not show up? Not play? Fine, forfeit!

He should do a Roger Goodell on them, make it up as he goes along, banging his sceptre on the ground as he makes the announcement.

Re-read your post, for content.

That is precisely why he should sack-up and make the correct decision.

He should decide, not on behalf of the 12 departing schools, but, instead, in favor of the solitary, remaining, school that was among the founding members.

I hate cowardly administrative types who pull down the big dollars that allegedly compensate them for all the "tough, executive decisions" that they are required to make..... And then, when presented with a clear decision, like this one.....they punt.

The Big East is dead to me. (Just as it is dead to the rest of college sports, for that matter. I guess I was just not as quick on the uptake.).

This was a done deal when the presidents voted in the rule last year.

The commissioner can't change it, no matter how impressive a tantrum he might pitch on your behalf.

Argh, rules can't be changed. Even ex-post facto rules. Therefore, 3 more years for Catholics in the BE!!!!

Unless he adopts a scorched earth policy, he's dead to me. I'm a fan, not an administrator. 30+ years of watching and banned from the last BET that means anything. And why?

I fly down every year and watch four nights with my brothers. So, I'll put out the Brando godfather line, "And this I cannot forgive."

Change "can't" to "won't" and you will have accuracy.

He is a coward! Plain and simple. And he is all fraidy scared of a gaggle of self serving s who won't be around in 90 days, anyway.

I know that they voted on it....but voting in ex post facto rules and regulations is ....well...it is only considered binding on those who will not challenge it.

But, hey....The departing members of the Big East are "ten toes in" on screwing over the last remaining original member! What's not to like!

When Mr. Aresco looks out over the landscape of the "Big East" in 3 years, and sees all of those fine institutions, like the University of Southern North Dakota, at Hoople, and all the rest (scattered as they will likely be, from sea to shining sea), he can look back upon this as his shining moment. A moment when he had the opportunity to stand up and do the right thing. And he can console himself in the knowledge that he bravely turtled, instead.

ZLS tends to crap on Aresco, the conference, the school, anyone really to justify in his own mind working for the organization that really screwed over UConn royally. It's like the bad slight of hand by a street magician, trying to redirect attention to his off hand so that the other can take your watch. The thing is this state will never forget that ESPN gutted our conference with complete disregard for our university. There will be no more hand outs for ESPN and every transcretion by them, zoning, sound ordinance, loose dog on the premise, whatever, ought be vigorously pursued.

Do you double layer the tinfoil, or does that make it harder to form the information antennae on the hat?

I wish we could send Jeff Adrien, Edmund Saunders, Ed Nelson, and Andre Drummond to pay Aresco a visit.
