"If you ever oohed and aahed over Jordan or Johnson, if you ever wore Bruins blue or Boston green with pride, you should appreciate the passion and play of the UConn women’s team. They are dominant because they are dedicated. They are successful because they have honed their skills more than any of us could ever imagine. As champions, they have changed the game. And you can be sure that they’ve changed it for the better."

I want to ask Dan Shaughnessy just one question:
If you have kids, if they get #1 in their class every semester. Will you ask your kids not to study so hard because it will hurt other students?

The best way to handle Shaughnessy is to ignore him completely; his negativity is designed to draw attention to himself. Back when the Globe site was free, I got to the point where I refused to click on any article/column with his byline on it.

The number of positive things he's written over the past 30+ years could probably be counted on one hand.

I wonder how Dano felt about the disparity between say the Warriors and the 76ers earlier in the season. How about what might be the gap between the Braves this year as the season progresses and say the Royals, Cardinals, Red Sox (it hurt to say that) and Blue Jays? To the point, best not to take the bait and leave him to argue baseball with Cafardo, Neumier and Merloni.

Have to agree with HuskyJohn's assessment of Dan Shaughnessy. Will take his and my own advice and not post regarding this topic in future.
Most Boston area sports fans recognize Shaughnessy's current position in the NE sports hierarchy. At one point, 10+ years ago, he was the heir apparent to Bob Ryan -i.e. top sports writer not just for area but for US. Not sure of the reasons, but Shaughnessy appeared to get lazy and lost his creativity. As in his "Conn is bad for women's basketball" comments, today he frequently recycles topics and tag lines. Not unusual for him to repurpose other writer's creative work or come out with headlines just to get personal attention. Many view him as a second tier writer today that has little new to add. Disappointing since many once enjoyed his work.
