From Wednesday's JI:

During soccer season Enfield High's Danielle Delano broke her ankle and was going to miss playing hoops during her senior year. She is good...headed to Central Ct. next year on scholarship. Enfield also has Providence-bound Mary Baskerville and Assumption-bound Cat Fonseca.

They had senior night on Tuesday [kinda early?] against Manchester High. The coaches worked out a Nykesha tribute to Danielle. Delano stood underneath the basket...Mary tipped it to her...a dribble or two...made the lay-up. No record was involved....clearly it was just to thank her for her good play during her career.
Manchester then was allowed a gift lay-up to even the score. Enfield won by 19. Even without Delano the season will end badly for them unless they win their division for the state title.

Wondering if the coaches actually were motivated to do this by the Nykesha basket against 'Nova back in the day?

A little more on this from Carl Adamec in Friday's JI...I don't see a link for his piece.

Carl reports that Geno was smiling a lot post game in South Carolina....but it wasn't just for the way UConn played.
When Geno was told about the gift basket honoring Delano it made him beam all the more.
Clearly he liked the gesture from both coaches [no surprise] and waxed poetic about the wonderfulness of Manchester residents....obviously including Manchester High coach Leanne Crockett [think that's her name]. Maybe he was speaking just a bit tongue-in-cheek but overall the gift delighted him. Uhhh...Himself lives in Manchester.

I wonder if the Nykesha basket had not happened whether this latest one would?
