Remember that MSST do not play in the AAC so the schedule can be a little weaker. Especially when you play South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Missouri.

The Vancouver Showcase will be loaded and Marquette and West Virginia are good teams.

Can't wait to see Maryland's OOC Schedule. If its like prior years, Brenda will have scheduled Five or more games against Teams have a Sub 200 RPI. Will you use the same excuse that Maryland plays in the Tough Big Ten? Too many teams play Weak/Pathetic OOC Games to get 10-12 Wins to make it easier to get to 20 Wins for the season.

BTW, Geno has traditionally had the toughest OOC Schedule, even when they played in the Big East that had Louisville and Notre Dame in their schedule.

Remember that MSST do not play in the AAC so the schedule can be a little weaker. Especially when you play South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Missouri.

The Vancouver Showcase will be loaded and Marquette and West Virginia are good teams.

This was covered in the non conference thread. I think Matyland's schedule was listed as well. @Wbbfan1

Nah. This ain’t it, chief.

I’m not sure what happened because their OOC schedule last season was actually decent. So I was expecting better this year, but instead, it nosedived.

SEC teams can schedule tough, SC and Tenn do it yearly. Even when MSU had really strong teams they usually scheduled like this. State is on the scene now. A legitimate power nationally.. it’s time to join the fray and schedule big home and away games with top teams. Oregon was a nice start, but I’m not sure how you don’t have a plan to replace them or continue the series after they rotated off the schedule.

SC’s OOC schedule last season: Clemson, Maryland, Oregon State, Baylor, Duke (game cancelled due to weather), Purdue, UConn.... not to mention other better than average D1s like Drake, Temple and Dayton.

Tenn’s OOC last season: Clemson, Oklahoma State, Texas, Stanford, Notre Dame

Mississippi State’s OOC: Virginia, Texas, Marquette, Oregon, Washington

WHAT TF HAPPENED?

Let's wait and see who is in the Vancouver Showcase before we totally trash MSST schedule.

I actually think our schedule will end up being tougher this year. Sure last year's may have looked stronger at the beginning of the year. But Texas stunk, SC was in way over their head early, the entire SEC was down, Virginia and Washington obviously became really bad, and Marquette was only good relative to the competition they played. Playing 4 teams overall that were #2 seeds the year before was... not bad, but only 1 of those remained a #2 seed.

If both Stanford and MSU wins their first 2 games in Vancouver like people expect, that Stanford/MSU game will be one of the key games of the year. No idea who else will be in Vancouver but I'm guessing someone from the ACC.

I think those first 5 games are a joke, but it's a good extended practice, imo. Interesting 8 out of 10 of our last nonconference games are not in Starkville, but I think it's good to slowly ease into this, and I definitely think we should play our weakest opponents first.

There's no guarantee we will play Stanford in that tournament, but I hope we do. The rest of the schedule is mostly trash. It's really frustrating because I don't understand the reason for it. You can't be an elite team if you don't have the schedule to match. You won't be taken seriously.

We could at least schedule some top 100 RPI teams instead of Troy and ULL. I don't mind a few cupcakes in the mix. Southern Miss is fine because they are in state, and Vic wanted to do the series so some of our fans on the coast could see the team play. But Jackson State is not necessary. Oh well, this will be the last I say about it. It is what it is. I will be interested to see everyone else's schedules once they are all finalized.

But see.... if Stanford and Mississippi State don't end up playing, it means one of them goofed and lost to a team they were favored against. Could be Stanford, could be us.

Unless UConn makes it to Vancouver, State and Stanford should absolutely play in the championship game in that tournament. If that doesn't happen, then that's one of those two's fault and no one else's for losing early. Sometimes what other people do end up hurting you, and that's one of the unfortunate things about this game.

LSU's schedule is much tougher than that, and we suck
Right. And LSU even had a home and home with UConn years ago(to the UConn/MSU scheduling conflict rumor) . It's no excuses to scheduling weak opponents.

Yeah, but you see, when MSU has the weakest schedule of any top 25 team, it's not Vic's fault. It's Geno's because he didn't bow to Vic's demand that he travel to Starkville. Seriously, the MSU fans are never wrong about this kind of stuff.

You can't argue with Vic's results. I don't doubt his coaching and ability to develop players. That said I do think it would be a helluva lot more beneficial to challenge your team during the OOC slate. Not saying you need to go on murder row and have all these top 10 matchups but challenge yourself with a solid core of top 25/top 50 teams. It is also good for fans and WBB in general. A top ten team beating up on sisters of the poor is not very exciting from a fan perspective. What does that prove as well?

Yes I am sure certain programs probably didn't have room to squeeze in games due to some of the OOC matchups being set up way ahead of time. I just find it hard to believe State couldn't get better teams on schedule. That is 100% on Vic.

He has gotten really good results in the past 3 years, but, like you said, it's boring. If he gets back to the Final 4 in the next 2-3 years, I guess it will have worked. I don't love the philosophy, but maybe the tournament in Vancouver will give me something interesting to watch. If anything, I'm interested to see how Rickea Jackson develops.

Does everyone see the irony of a Maryland fan sticking up for MSU’s very pathetic schedule? Though, this year there is SC, NC St, Belmont, Clemson and Quinnipiac on the schedule. Then paper teams that on the surface look good but aren’t in GW, JMU and Delaware. Then the bakery cupcakes of Ga St, Loyola and Wagner. That’s actually an outstanding schedule for Brenda! Maybe with a highly hyped team she can validate them. Here’s their schedule
