Love it. Too bad it won't matter if we can't play in the tournament anyway.

It won't matter to the NCAA whether or not these kids come back when it makes its decision regarding UConn's APR, but it would help with the school's image if the players did come back in spite of a post season ban.
The steady drip of players leaving would be constant reminders of why they were leaving. But staying shows a level of committment to the school, the program and the coach. (At least on the surface. I understand the real issues of preparing for the nba.)
A lesson I try to impart to my kids is "you can't quit." And its twin: "You can't run from your problems."
This would be young adults staying true when things got bad even though it would be easier to go play somewhere else.

It definitely matters, even if we can't make the tournament. It says a lot about our program and what a family we are.

Plus as far as "missing the tournament" scenarios go, I can't think of a better one than us dominating the regular season next year, being an obvious #1 seed, and having whatever team wins the championship deal with the media saying "Yeah they are the champions, but if UCONN had been eligible....

It would be great, but it doesn't say anything bad about Rudy that he left after two years and the same would be true for Lamb.

It would really help bridge the gap for our program as well. If JL and AD leave it leaves us in a tight spot and on top if that we have a scary situation with the ban coming up. These guys staying would mean the world to this program at this unique point in time. The next 12-18 months could have long-lasting effects on the program, or we could bounce out if it just fine. Getting through this will be a lot easier if these guys come back.

That sounds horrible. I'd rather we suck and not have to deal with what if scenarios.

I don't know - it might be cool to be the answer to the trivia question 'Which NCAA Basketball Program did not win the National Championship in an undefeated season?'

Not surprised. I remember reading somewhere around the time Rudy was going into the huskies of honor that looking back on it he said he should have stayed another year.

Yeah, I guess that's probably just an age thing. I'm only 36 but I'm still old enough to remember when we were truly a bad basketball program, and the scenario I just described would qualify as one of our best seasons of all time. But you don't.

I think it would be the best to the ncaa we can give back to them. Go out there, earn a hypothetical 1 seed, win the big east regular season, and cast a shadow of doubt to the winners of both tournaments in our absence. Next years articles would be all about how dumb the NCAA is and really call them out on the embarrassment they have become. Wouldnt be ironic if the one championship coach cal wins is clouded by the fact that they were the 2nd best team and uconn would beat them! put an asterisk on that too!

The next 3 weeks will be big. Don't assume any outcome at this point - too many variables truly up in the air.

I will say this I am becoming more disappointed in Herbst. I can accept she is unpopular with her peers if she has a backbone. But if she has neither - she becomes a bad hire given UConn's current place.

Personally, despite the media noise - I would stick it out with Coach. He is still the reason outstanding players come here. But, we do need to announce a succession plan ASAP.

As for the NCAA - don't focus on the merits of the issue - it is all politics and PR as the Boatright NYT backlash proved. UConn needs to position itself with the student athlete's interest vs. the NCAA greed. The NCAA is positioning itself on the side of academics vs. UC subpar academics. We need to flip the table on them. Emmert is a jerk but he is using this narrative to extract revenge and pressure the appeal committee with reps from the schools. The NCAA staff already gives him the outcome they know he wants but remains unspoken or implied in many cases. So what we need to do is impact the committee - he has some influence over (putting these bureaucrats on various committees - i.e. Hathaway) them but not as much he has on the staff.

Lamb needs to get physically stronger and mentally tougher. Better to do that at UConn than NBA pine or D league.

The NCAA tournament thing is out of the program's hands at this point. However, should UConn not be allowed in, I would absolutely LOVE to have the entire team -- sans AO -- come back and just kill people all year. It would absolutely force people to discuss what has gone on which is something that the talking heads have been reluctant to do.

Gay regretted leaving early (and his doing so probably cost us another NC). Good for him for sharing that experience with Jeremy. There are a lot of similarities with these two players.

Really? Hard to see that 07 team even with Rudy going that far.

I forgot to login and saw ChiefMoron's ridiculous anti-Herbst screed.

Hey einstein: her job is to lead the school and raise cash. She raised more cash last year than was ever raised in one year in the HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL, in a crap economy. Herbst is not the problem.

Rudy was on that 2006 team. That team was truly stacked. I'll always be disappointed that we didn't win it all that year.
agreed that team was insane
