Shocking that this would occur:

League officials have discussed a multisite, rotational bowl partnership of the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten and ACC to maximize matchups over six years, according to two sources with knowledge of those discussions.

The Music City Bowl in Nashville, Belk Bowl in Charlotte and Alamo Bowl in San Antonio are among the sites being mentioned

The pinstripe is as good as gone. belk, now. russell most likely.

That leaves'

I sure hope Herbst has a plan.

This isn't surprising news at all...no one should be surprised at this development.

What exactly would you like SH to do about bowl affiliations that she has nothing to do with?

The implication would seem to be a plan that involves UConn having nothing to do with these bowl affiliations.

The only thing this proves is that we're getting closer and closer to seeing a group of 64 or so teams breaking away from NCAA and forming their own association. They don't want to share their money with the mid-majors and it's only a matter of time. Everything that's transpired is showing it's more and more likely. Add in the NCAA being exposed as a bigger fraud than everyone thought with the whole Miami thing, and the time is quickly approaching.

If you think about it, what's the point of having bowl tie-ins anymore once you get past the playoff bowls?

Eliminating tie-ins may not make sense for every league or every bowl, but opening up the process could get you better matchups.

Those are good points.

And the OP was clearly being sarcastic when he said it was surprising.

Looks like the Russell is likely gone, too, according to mcmurphy. Big 12 replaces big east/america 12.

POTENTIAL GROWTH MEMPHIS

Do we have the Liberty Bowl yet? Is Memphis going to bring anything to the table in this show?

Nashville, Charlotte, San Antonio plus one in FL, New Orleans, Memphis, Birmingham. Would be a better line up than I thought this group could get.

Now more importantly, will the opponents be mostly power 5 schools?

I put the over under at 3, and I'd be mildly surprised if they get it.

BUZZWORD

HOLISTIC

The bottom line is, if UConn gets better at football they will get invited to play in a bowl. Embrace the situation and move on. A lot of whining and useless speculation on here sometimes. Deal with it!

Boise State and Utah have spent a decade trying to argue meritocracy. They'll make for great doctoral case studies...both complain they aren't provided the same opportunity to compete with programs that have invested/risked hundreds of millions more over the past 50 years, yet feel entitled to an equal share of the current profits. Utah found a legitimate conference and Boise didn't....Regardless of performance, Utah Is guaranteed to be more profitable....

I think you misinterpreted the article. The Music City Bowl, Belk Bowl, and Alamo Bowl are being considered for the rotation for the 'alliance', not for the A12.

Although Notre Dame moves to ACC July 1, Irish remain part of Big East's bowl lineup in 2013 if they don't make BCS bowl

Edit... ?? Check that ??

@slmandel @McMurphyESPN Notre Dame is NOT a part of the Big East's bowl line-up in 2013.

McMurphyESPN 12:05pm via TweetDeck
Big East's @NickCarparelli says Notre Dame not part of Big East lineup in 2013 so if ND isn't in BCS bowl will have to find an open bowl

2014 Bowls will be an issue for Conference TBA

ND's last deal with the Big East was that they got to take one Orlando bid in a four year cycle. They already took it. So it doesn't matter whether the contract is still in effect for 2012 -- the last year of the four year cycle -- or not.

Wasn't sure if the ND/BE Champs Agreement ended in 2012 or 2013...

Sorry if my post was confusing with a typo. The 4-year contract with ND is still in place for this bowl season, but ND has already gotten out of it everything there is to get out of it.
