Anastasia Hayes just announced she is returning to MSST, I think MSST has great chance to be top 3 in the SEC. If Coach Purcell was involved in Annie decision to me that is a gold star for him and a great step in the right direction. GO DAWGS,

I saw this yesterday and am glad she's coming back. I'm tempering my enthusiasm as I have not heard if anyone else is leaving with Purcell's arrival.

The 3 sisters, D. Carter, and J. Carter (if she returns) could be a solid lineup to bridge the gap between the old and new staffs. Top 3 SEC seems a pretty tall order though given that UT added Jackson and so far has their lineup in tact. Kim will have LSU ready even with a new team and Florida came on strong last year. Ralph will be in Year 2 and already showed improvements. A&M will be a wildcard and so will Georgia.

The portal throws everything into question for the foreseeable future and won't calm down for sometime but I am hopeful Purcell will finally give us the stability that has been lacking.

It says she's coming back to enter the portal ? Did she confirm she was coming back to MSST or coming back to enter portal for another team ?

With D Carter still recovering from her knee injury and the uncertainty of whether J Carter can be counted to be the main low post threat, especially on defense and rebounding, MSU is focused on trying to find a low post/forward player in the portal. The coaches are trying to fill the remaining slots with best available players whether it is in the portal or high school recruits. Don’t be surprised if one or two of the guards leave after the next round of commitments. Most of this should play out in the next couple of weeks.

Good news for Mississippi State. The SEC as a whole looks incredibly weak next year outside of SC/Tennessee, teams 3-9 all lose their top scorer and most lose several other starters too:

Kentucky-loses all their top players
LSU-loses Pointer, Cherry, Aifuwa, Newby
Ole Miss-loses Austin, Monk, Reid, not sure if Angel Baker returns or not
Georgia-loses Morrison/Staiti/Barker/Coombs, likely no Janiah Barker
Florida-loses Kiara Smith, not sure if Broughton is back
Mizzou-loses Blackwell, Higginbottom, Williams
Arkansas-loses Ramirez and Goforth

So, I have two questions, Aislynn Hayes seemed to not get any meaningful minutes with MSU even though at MTSU, I thought she was pretty good. Is she just not SEC worthy? What about the youngest Hayes who transferred from ND, was she hurt this year? Does she have the requisite skill to contribute on an SEC team?

Ace Hayes was normally one of the first subs off the bench but did start a few games due to other players being injured. She was a good three point shooter in spurts but not the most consistent. Some good games and others not so much. She is not a bad player but I don’t know if she is quick enough and physical enough to push for major minutes. The youngest sister was hurt last year and redshirted. Candidly I’m not certain as to what role she will play this coming year. She is listed as a point guard.

I was impressed with Ace, she gave max effort both ends of the court IMO. She is not an aggressive player like Annie but that may have been due to the short bench and Novak’s ”limit fouls” philosophy because we just did not have the depth to go all out.
