This is good. Gives Uconn more ammo if and when the ACC/B10 comes calling. Why would the BE schools want to piss off the most important school (along w/ UL) they have left?
I haven't seen much talk on this board about the impact the post season ban will have on UCONN's attendence (which was already down in recent years) and revenue? If people stayed home in the past for games that meant something, how pumped are they going to be to go to meaningless games in a meaningless season? This is why in the past I've advocated on this board to move all the games this season to Gampel to create some buzz and bring back the home court advantage we had in the '90's. UCONN basketball gets me through the long, cold winter and it kills me to have to endure the upcoming season. I hate Emmert and the NCAA.Meh.
Love UConn - got a nice fat head on the wall. Been watching for many years. And so on.
But this is an easy call for the BE.
The winner of the BET is an auto-bid to the NCAAs. No way will the BE take a chance on burning that on a team that can't go. Further, bubble teams and teams that are out have a huge incentive to go deep into the BE tourni.
If option one is bubble team 1 and bubble team 2 play in the 2nd round and one will win and definitely be in the tourni, and option 2 is UConn beats the snot out of one of them and the other loses its game, then it would be painfully stupid for the BE to allow UConn to play in the tourni.
Frankly, this has got nothing to do with loyalty of the BE.
Turn it around. We made the BE look bad by having such wretched APR scores. Forget about all the spunk that the NCAA had to pull out of its rearend to make the charges stick. Fact is, it was within our control and we failed to control it.
One year is no big deal, as the recruiting has shown.
I'd have rather they not put down the BET on the schedule. Take your whipping without bitching, and get stronger for next year.
We had a thread on this a while back. I still think our new commissioner should think about letting us play. We bring a lot of bodies to the garden, that's money left on the table if we aren't invited. Plus the new commissioner seems interested in promoting the league. Give him the right narrative and I think that he'll bite.
1) Last two years UConn scored 975 ouf a possible 1000
2) punished twice for the same offense
3) UNC submitted false APR reports without sanction.
4) Indicate that it is meaningful to us to be playing in the Garden. We're loyal to the league and we want the league to be loyal to us.
5) We'd need a successful UConn team this year to make this happen. I think we have a shot.
Frankly, this has got nothing to do with loyalty of the BE.
Meh.

While agree with your point about the potential of knocking out a bubble team in an early round, I disagree with the above. The BE auto-bid has never gone to a team that wouldn't have otherwise gotten an at-large invite to the dance.
I've heard all the arguments, pro and con and I still feel strongly that the Big East members should step up and have UConn's back and let them participate in the BET. It would make a statement that the NCAA has acted unjustly and hypocritically (UNC) and has one of it's most important member's back.
That IMO is far more important than the unlikely scenario of UConn winning the BET and taking the auto bid from a program that will likely get an at large bid anyways. As far as knocking out a bubble team in the early rounds of the BET, it's that program's own fault that they didn't do enough leading up to the BET, putting themselves in that situation.
