So our tailgating group went on vacation last week at Excellence-Riviera Maya. On Wednesday, we went on an excursion. As we were driving through Cancun, we passed LaSalle University of Mexico & a local high school. Both of their athletic fields were lined for American Football & furnished with regulation goal posts. The high school even had artificial turf. Wonder how big their players are.:)

The game is and will be called gridiron (football). The game is somewhat popular in Mexico. They are about as good as, if not better than, Japan.

India is spearheading a grassroots movement. I am watching it develop right before my eyes. They know they need to work on the passing game. Last I saw (last season), they are running a rugby-style clock. The EFLI is playing exhibition matches in cities in India now and they appear to be attracting decent crowds for a league that came out of nowhere. Last season was practicing and playing a first season in Sri Lanka. Some of these players are pro or semi pro rugby players. They are paid more to play gridiron football than rugby football. Look up the list of investors. Marky Mark is even investing.

They were meant to play in front of no crowds their first season but did have a TV showing, it appears. Now they play in front of crowds.

Man oh man.. football's definitely catching on when you see it happening in SRI LANKA...

New AAC bowl tie-in?

Our 2nd experience at an Excellence Resort.(was at Excellence-Puntacana, D.R. 3 years ago.) They're great all inclusives. Great gourmet restaurants. I recommend the lamb shanks at the Italian Restaurant & the duck & venison chop entrees & escargot appetizer at the French Restaurant. Enjoy yourselves & take advantage of the various lunch specials served on the beach.

Nice, coachcap- we would definitely go back (or check out their other properties).

kjk - Not sure how long you will be there. Believe me, you can spend your entire time on the resort and just relax and enjoy. We were there for 10 days and picked our spots... we didn't do the usual Cancun tours or Mayan ruins. The resort offered a day trip to Isla Mujeres, which was nice just to get away for a bit. Very common to rent golf carts and cruise the island, which was neat. Our favorite off-resort excursion was a cooking class. It's not offered via the resort, but we saw it was very highly rated on TripAdvisor. The resort did coordinate a round-trip cab for us, and the fee was reasonable (no need to haggle in my broken spanish). The hosts are wonderful and the food was awesome. More info :

The last thing was a splurge - I drove 5 laps in an Audi R8 at Exotic Rides.

Was it worth it? Ehhhhh... glad I did it, and the R8 is one of their few "reasonably" priced cars. The track is small though, and 5 laps is over before you know it.

But by all means, if you just stay on the resort - you will not be disappointed. We spent a lot of time at the swim up bar...

Wonder when their seasons run? Heading to Cancun for two glorious weeks last week of January and first week of February. Might need a beach break...or not.
