Two things Aresco is not dumb. He knows the answer lies in TV revenue. The goal has to be to be able pay 3 million a year for Top coaches. That will not stop a Texas or Nebraska from taking your coaches, but chances are you'll be safe from the likes of Purdue and Mississippi State. The 2nd is hiring young offensive coordinator types. This seems to be fastest way from awful to contender.

Rhule got offered an awful lot of money to go to Baylor. If we get a TV deal that’s better than the last one and significantly better, we might be able to pay these guys rates comparable to some of those P-5 schools,” Aresco said. “We’re competitive with the middle and lower end of the P5 but the very top ends, the Urban Meyers of the world. .... Tom Herman makes more in taxes than he would have made at Houston, but he was still making about $3 million.”

Hiring young, rising star offensive coordinators to lead AAC schools is just one part of the league’s evolving story. The conference also proved it could be attractive for proven coaches like Charlie Strong, who can find more stability and hit the ground running recruiting in Florida.

Money is one issue but what quality coach will stay in a G5 FB conference when he can make his bones in a P5 conference? If you had a AAA baseball manager who had a shot at the bigs would he stay in AAA because he was offered the same money?

Grass Isn't Always Greener For College Football Coaches - The Sports Column | Sports Articles, Analysis, News and Media

I understand, go for the gusto! That's the American way! But the grass isn't always greener. Ask Strong, Sumlin and Rhule! There's a big difference between coaching Houston or Temple for $3,000,000 per year and the Albuquerque Isatopes for $80,000 per year. AAA baseball managers make $100,000 tops and there are way fewer major league managers jobs. Maybe that's why Mike Norville chose to remain at Memphis at least for now.

Memphis coach Mike Norvell to AD on new contract: 'Let's get this thing done now'

“I think it shows something to the recruits that we’re asking to do the same thing. It’s not always about that logo or about the conference; it’s about the right fit for you. For us, the right fit was to continue building what we are building in Memphis.”

Scott Frost was caught in a very difficult position. After two years at UCF he totally rights the ship taking theGolden Knights from 0-12 prior to his getting there to 6-6, then 13-0 and AAC champions. Then the perfect storm comes along. Truly his dream job opens up. Frost's former iconic coach Tom Osborne coached the Huskers for 25 years...Osborne was one of the most successful coaches in American college football history, with a career record of 255–49-03, 13 conference championships, and three national championships. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1999.

Frost caught the perfect storm, he had a chance to go home to a university that is the only game in town. A place where he himself was a national champion. Tough decision! I have a feeling if the Nebraska opportunity wasn't there, he might have stayed at UCF.

It's not just the AAC and P5. It's who. FSU couldn't keep Fisher way from A&M. Saban had googly eyes for Texas a few years ago.

Frost is an outlier because of the obvious connection to Nebraska.

It's the Rhule to Baylor that needs to stop.

FSU and Jimbo were done with each other.

Right. It's ego. He was making millions and winning championships and that wasn't good enough for either of side.
