Money is one issue but what quality coach will stay in a G5 FB conference when he can make his bones in a P5 conference? If you had a AAA baseball manager who had a shot at the bigs would he stay in AAA because he was offered the same money?
Grass Isn't Always Greener For College Football Coaches - The Sports Column | Sports Articles, Analysis, News and Media
I understand, go for the gusto! That's the American way! But the grass isn't always greener. Ask Strong, Sumlin and Rhule! There's a big difference between coaching Houston or Temple for $3,000,000 per year and the Albuquerque Isatopes for $80,000 per year. AAA baseball managers make $100,000 tops and there are way fewer major league managers jobs. Maybe that's why Mike Norville chose to remain at Memphis at least for now.
Memphis coach Mike Norvell to AD on new contract: 'Let's get this thing done now'
“I think it shows something to the recruits that we’re asking to do the same thing. It’s not always about that logo or about the conference; it’s about the right fit for you. For us, the right fit was to continue building what we are building in Memphis.”
Scott Frost was caught in a very difficult position. After two years at UCF he totally rights the ship taking theGolden Knights from 0-12 prior to his getting there to 6-6, then 13-0 and AAC champions. Then the perfect storm comes along. Truly his dream job opens up. Frost's former iconic coach Tom Osborne coached the Huskers for 25 years...Osborne was one of the most successful coaches in American
college football history, with a career record of
255–49-03, 13 conference championships, and three
national championships. He was inducted into the
College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1999.
Frost caught the perfect storm, he had a chance to go home to a university that is the only game in town. A place where he himself was a national champion. Tough decision! I have a feeling if the Nebraska opportunity wasn't there, he might have stayed at UCF.
