I definitely think the HQ should be moved from Providence but you have to think about what this league "might" look like 5, 10, 20 years from now. NYC will always be there and once the Big East starts to fold what better place than MSG for the American Men's & Women's Basketball Tournament. Aresco, thinking outside of the box staggers the days of the tournament so that day 1 is women's first round, day 2 is men's first round, day 3 women's second round and so on until the Saturday just before Selection Sunday having a double header Championship. Women's Champ game first then the men. The athletes get a break from playing 4 or 5 games in 4 or 5 days straight(hopefully avoiding even one injury would be worth it). Dallas is a good choice, Memphis is probably more centrally located given the current schools but who else has their HQ in the heart of of media NYC?

Staying in Providence was always an odd choice.

After all, the American doesn't have a program central to Providence -- the closest is UConn nearly 50 miles away -- and a majority of its member schools cover the South and Southwest after realignment from the Big East.

This. We are such a bad fit in this conference. We want it to keep being the old Big East but the rest of of the conference wants it to Conference USA on steroids. I wish we had somewhere else to go.

If Tulsa is on par with Oklahoma State for scheduling in football between themselves now, this conference is not C-USA. It's about 2/3rds of the way to matching the old Big East. Need to win more big football games (USF should hire a wizard coach for those Alabama games) and need to reestablish basketball.

Tulane clearly regrets leaving the SEC.

This women’s tournament with the men’s only appeals to one fan base and I am not even sure about that.

For some reason I hate the idea of Dallas....but I can't think of a better alternative....

I don't mind Orlando. We are a mickey mouse conference, so the symbolism is perfect. Plus, flights from ORL are ubiquitous to all points of this far flung amalgamation. I find a FL HQ less threatening to us than landing in big D.

One day they're going to invent something that is going to allow us to connect to one another and allow us to do business with anyone, from anywhere.

Until that day though, let's argue where a mid major athletic conference has its offices.

Probably not good for UConn but the center of gravity is the South. We were used and abused to stand up a conference and we are yesterday's news to Aresco. Personally, I think the guy is a snake oil salesman and sold UConn down the drain. The new network deal is great for his pocketbook but that’s about it.

I don’t think it matters for the league where the office is.

It does matter to UConn they went from the closest school to the furthest school from HQ.

The only reason the conference HQ was in Providence is because the AAC is the successor entity to the old Big East, so the office there automatically became the AAC office. It was there because Gavitt, Tranghese and Marinatto were all part of the "PC mafia" that ran the conference. All of them and a bunch of other employees all came from the PC athletic dept. administration.

I'm guessing none of them could figure out a way to get out of a long term lease agreement for the office space there. They've just been waiting for the lease to expire so they can bolt. Considering there are no longer any ties with PC and no other reason to be in Providence, it was inevitable that they'd move the conference office.

Moving to Dallas certainly seems to symbolically represent that Aresco now considers the true power base of the conference to reside in Texas, with SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Memphis, Tulane and Wichita St. all in close or relatively close proximity...a less than one or two hour flight to any of them other than SMU, likely without having to change planes. Dallas is a major transportation hub.

UConn’s problem isn’t transportation to Dallas.

Every day you can fly the friendly skies.
6:40 AM nonstop BDL to DFW
6:40 PM nonstop DFW to BDL

It’s almost easier to commute to Dallas from Hartford via AA than to NYC via rail.

It’s about 7:30 in the air roundtrip to Dallas and 7:00 on the train to NYC on the new line to Metro North in New Haven.

I think the conference headquarters in Providence should be burned in a big bonfire like ceremony.

The significance of Dallas was not just becoming a midwest/southwest centric conference. As the article said, the CFP is headquartered there as are many other college football power players. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the state of Texas is a center of college football power brokers. Plus, you can get to anywhere in the country directly from DFW or Love airports.

Unfortunately for Aresco, being HQ'ed among some of the CFB power brokers doesn't make you one of them. It only makes you a wannabe, on the outside looking in, with your nose pressed up against their window.

Did you read Tulsa just signed an EIGHT year deal with Oklahoma State in football??

We screwed up in not taking up the Notre Dame deal for a series.

Well, better to be a wannabe with a nose pressed on the window than a non-existent entity 1500 miles away???

Staying in Providence for this long borders on the criminal.

It's begging to be ignored.

Didn't but it makes sense for both of them. All those games will sell out and it's an easy bus ride for players and drive for fans. OSU has tons of alumni in Tulsa. The same logic would apply to a long UConn - BC home and home series, but good luck with that.
