Of course there is our own Jen at UHart. Also... a young coach up north in her first #1 job in her second year might be someone to keep an eye on as a riser in coaching circles.
Maureen Magarity is about to complete her second season at New Hampshire. They were in nowheresville prior to her going there....way under .500 in the league....less than 10 wins a year.
Now that she has a had a chance to get a few of her own players in the program they are headed to UHart for the tournament with a 16-12 record....9-7 in the league. They have won a bunch of close games...a tribute to the staff and to the players' poise down the stretch.
Boston U. and UHart are the probable finalists [imo] with the winner to go to the dance from that one-bid league. 'Twould be a miracle if UNH manages to win the thing but Maureen has the program headed in the right direction. Recruit...recruit....recruit....go Maureen!
BTW#1: she is part of a seriously basketball-centric family....most of them in the northeast...I think Philly is the homebase for many of them. Her Dad [Dave] is the very well respected head coach at Army.
BTW#2: I don't know that UNH is a 'destination' job so I wonder who might have her on their radar down the road. The program at BC has fallen and I'm not sure they will get up with the current head coach there. If AD Chet had a clue, he might well be looking to his north for a replacement sooner than later.
BTW#3: back in the day....I'm guessing around 2000....I had the chance to see Maureen play in Glens Falls in the NYS tournament. She was a fine inside player for Lady of Lourdes [Poughkeepsie]....she went to BC and then transferred back near home to Marist.
BTW#4: UNH plays on Friday at 2:15 in the 4/5 game...winner to play on Sunday probably against Boston U. Win or lose...in the Dixville Notch returns Maureen is doing just fine in her chosen career.
