As each day passes, I get more and more jacked for football season. I want both of these guys to come back to UCONN, with their programs, and go home with the proverbial bloody nose and black eyes, just like we did to skippy on his return 2 years ago.

Climbing the walls I am. I hope our guys aren't sleeping.

What I loved most about this is that Randy took them on the road to Baltimore.

Granted, Bridgeport is twice as far from Storrs as Baltimore is from College Park, but I'd love to see us hop on the bus and go down there for an outdoor scrimmage on a FieldTurf field every other year or so.

Really?

I guess you mean that. I suppose it would be cool to see a scrimmage in fairfield county, I'd use the Yale Bowl. Piggy back a uconn scrimmage on a yale spring game.

But what I love most, has got nothing to do with what Ambrose or Edsall are doing to build their programs, it's that we've got the opportunity to match up.

I don't give a crap where we scrimmage, really. I don't give a crap about the coaching staff. I don't give a crap about the conference. I want football, and I want to kick ass.

What I want, is for our guys to go out on the field, in 14 weeks from now, and beat the living out of both Towson and Maryland when we line up at Rentchler field. Do it by the rules, fair and square, but nevertheless, break them down physically adn plant pieces of them into the grass on our field, and mentally break their wills to win.

I'll be there watching.

I'm waiting now.

It would be great if UConn used its spring scrimmages this way. I would like to see them practice at New Canaan High School or Wilbur Cross. It makes more sense to use high school fields rather than Yale Bowl or college fields. Bring the program to the high schools.

.-.
Western Connecticut. At least it's in Fairfield County and doesn't preclude HS athletes from attending.

Yeah, we have a $50 bazillion practice facility that we can use rain or shine to work on football skills. So why don't we load everyone on a bus, busses really, and drive an hour and a half to waste a practice on a high school field somewhere. If this works out maybe we can play a game or two at New Canaan, and let the basketball team hold its practices at East Lyme High. Then save the cost of the new facility...or just cover it with plastic and keep it for show. Oy!

Short-sighted.

short sighted? I post this stuff, becuase I can't wait for football, and you guys are more concerned about where Randy Edsall played a scrimmage with his maryland program, and how maybe we should do the same thing.

I don't give a rat's ass where we scrimmage. I know where we play actual football that counts, and I know we will be matched up with both Ambrose's program (which isn't too shabby) and Edsall's in back to back weeks in September, and I'm jacked.

So we should never, ever leave the practice facility?

We're talking about scrimmages that can be used as recruiting tools. Good grief, talk about not getting it.

From the thread title and OP I was expecting their to be smack talk in these video. Disappointed.

I'm not sure what is worse. Watching someone ejaculate prematurely or watching them get mad that everyone won't join in.

Visiting other parts of the state would not be a bad idea imho.

So let me get this right.... We often have posts about how UConn needs to act big time - and read about how they don't... and now we have advocates for them traveling to high school fields for scrimmages. Can you come off as smaller time than playing scrimmages at high schools 90 minutes from campus?

.-.
As much as a hate to admit it, I agree with Whaler and Free. You want to invite the some elite high school teams to the Rent for the Spring game and give them some face time with the coaches and players, absolutely, but I don't think you go road show with your team. Here's a novel idea, maybe you actually play a game for the Spring game? Shocking concept, I know.

Well, Spackler's idea that he just hopes more folks are like him is not working. We need to cultivate our fanbase. It is on life support as it is. It can be effective if marketed properly.

That is big time.

Guys, you gotta make sure you stay in perfect graces with the almighty high school football coaches of Connecticut.

Ha! It was 34 degrees on the thermometer outside my kitchen window this morning at 5:20am. May 15th. I've foudn myself agreeing with whaler lately.

Hell doth freezeth over.

I don't know about life support, but we haven't been winning, and not winning, is not good for the fanbase. That's hardly unique to UCONN though. I actually wouldn't mind the idea of a scrimmage played somewhere else in the state, as I noted. My idea was the Yale Bowl though. Turning it into some kind of combined football event with Yale football, even local high school football.

Look, I posted it yesterday, in a different discussion, for hoo-hahs, I looked up the box score of the Yale Harvard game played in New Haven in 2011 (it was in Massachusetts in 2012) and the paid attendance (couldn't find gate count) was 55,000 and change.

There are people in this state, that care about college football, and they are down there, in the southern part of this state near New York City. We need to find a way to tap in.

But I agree 100% with whaler - nothing screams SMALL TIME, more like Edsall's plan to build recruiting by playing scrimmages on a high school field, and having his players ride school buses in full pads, to get their, like they are still in high school.

.-.
Getting involved with the Walter Camp foundation to sponsor some kind of combined spring college football camp event with Yale University and UCONN, attracting the both smartest and biggest and strongest athletes? Run a couple of day camps out at the Yale Bowl? Bus everybody up to Shenkman if it's bad weather? Run our normal summer football camps out of Shenkman/Burton AND some kind of combined event with Yale University through the Camp foundation?

I think these are great ideas that could be explored, that would certainly help recruiting. And there's nothing small time - about it.

some elite high school teams to the Rent for the Spring game...

Oh, are we going to invite H.B. Plant High School (Tampa, FL, one of the USA's Top ranked team) to the Rent for the spring game?

Ohio State played their spring game in Cincinnati.

Why does Ohio State have facilities and a stadium in Columbus if they are playing their spring game in a different city? Are they a third world country or what. It's so small time.

They played in an NFL stadium. You can't seriously be so fuking stupid to compare a game at a small CT high school with a game at a state of the art NFL facility that was televised and had tens of thousands in attendance.
