Alyssa Thomas is the only player in the league in the top 10 in points(10th), rebounds(6th) and assists(5th). She is an outstanding defender in the mold of the Celts Marcus Smart and currently leads the league in steals per game. She drives the pace of the offense with her rebounding and relentless pushes up the court. She sets the tone for toughness on the Sun and will play as many minutes as the team needs. All-day motor if there ever was one. A great passer... Despite handling the ball as a facilitator on virtually every Sun possession, she is 24th in turnovers per game. Better than Parker, Stewie, Vandersloot, Meesaman, Taurasi, Gray, Diggins-Smith, Collier, etc., etc., etc. IMO, a clear candidate for MVP but she gets little to no recognition in that conversation.

Connecticut is 7th in the league, technically in the bottom half. She's a great player but doesn't deserve to be in the MVP race compared to others who are leading their teams to better seasons. At this point MVP looks like a 2 woman race with Wilson/Stewart in front and Parker as a potential dark horse pick if LA can finish top 2. Collier could be another dark horse pick of Minnesota finishes strong and the top 3 all tank, though this is a less likely scenario.

Others like Sloot, DT, Diggins, Thomas and Arike are having tremendous years but aren't realistic MVP candidates considering lack of team success compared to the top 3-4.

And Napheesa Collier is the only player in the top 20 in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.
