Al’s doing great,” coach Dan Hurley said. “I feel like this is the first time since he’s been here where he’s gotten a fair chance. He’s healthy, he played the majority of last season, he gets a spring and he gets a summer where he’s actually been able to work all year round and improve his game and filled out his body. He’s the strongest player in the program pound-for-pound.”

Kid was blind in one eye for weeks after that collision. No one deserves a healthy season more than him

Being injury free for quite some time now, being able to move forward, and having the time to work on his game and his body, his confidence level must be really high, and we need it. Embraced by both the coaching staff and the players, AG has another dimension to his game and that's leadership. As the primary ball handler and lead defender at the point, Gilbert needs to be HUGE for us this year.

Setting the tone, initiating the offense, distributing/facilitating, scoring, and keeping the team focused, composed, and playing as five.

AG is unique in that he's entering his 4th college season, and there's still no reliable measure of what his potential is. We know that he attained McD AA status playing with a bad shoulder at Miller Grove, and he showed spurts of brilliance playing with an assortment of injuries in his 3 years at UConn. He was constrained not only by the injuries but by the prudent caution he understandably played with when "healthy." This can be one exciting player if he can hold together. Fitting, somehow, that the leader of a team with so many question marks is the biggest question mark of all.

Alterique's character once again on full display. No matter what happens this season the man has character
that has been continuously been tested in fire and he keeps getting up ready for more. Those traits and virtues are part of him and he will carry them with him when he leaves. He reminds me a bit of Steve Pikiell with adversity/character of the man. No matter what he does AG has the brightest of futures. Interior toughness.

Oh geez. Pikiell will start included Al in Rutgers’ success tweets. Those dudes are clowns.
